Story
Krishna is a happy-go-lucky young man from Vaikunthapuram, a small village in East Godavari district. Since childhood, he has loved weddings. Whenever there is a marriage in or around the village, he joins the celebrations and dances with excitement. He has one simple dream to get married in the village temple during the annual festival. As he grows up, Krishna runs a small grocery shop and leads a peaceful village life.
One day, Krishna meets Sumathi, a gentle Anganwadi teacher from a nearby village. He falls in love with her at first sight, and soon, she feels the same. They plan to get married and live happily together.
But their happiness does not last long. The villagers start believing that Sumathi is possessed by a goddess. Slowly, they begin worshipping her and treating her as a divine figure. Because of this blind belief, the villagers strongly oppose Krishna marrying her.
At the same time, a major problem arises during the village temple festival. The story follows how Krishna stands against superstition, finds a solution to the festival issue, and struggles to protect his love. Whether Krishna finally marries Sumathi is the main emotional journey of Sumathi Sathakam.
Performances
Amardeep Chowdary appears confident and relaxed on screen, a quality that clearly comes from his long experience in television. His natural comfort in front of the camera helps the character feel familiar and approachable. However, there are moments where his performance echoes shades of other popular heroes. With a stronger focus on expressing his own unique style, he has ample scope to evolve further as a performer.
Shaili Chowdary adds a refreshing charm to the film with her graceful screen presence and appealing performance, which blends well with the story. Mahesh Vitta stands out as the village sarpanch, delivering a convincing act that balances realism with light humour. The actor playing the hero’s close friend, along with the rest of the supporting cast, fits their roles neatly and supports the narrative effectively within their respective limits.
Technical Aspects
The technical team of Sumathi Sathakam truly adds strength to the film with their honest and thoughtful work. Cinematographer S. Halesh beautifully brings out the village feel using natural light and simple, pleasing visuals that suit the emotions of the story. Subhash Anand’s music fits the film well, gently supporting the romantic and emotional scenes without being too loud or distracting. Editor Nahid Mohammed keeps the film engaging with neat editing and smooth scene transitions, making the story flow naturally. With the backing of Vision Movie Makers and producer Sai Sudhakar Kommalapati, the film benefits from strong technical support. All of this comes together under the clear and focused direction of writer-director M.M. Naidu, whose close involvement with every department results in a well-made and balanced film.
Verdict
Overall, set against a rustic village backdrop, Sumathi Sathakam entertains with light-hearted comedy and a clean, feel-good love story. The film balances humor and emotion effectively, making it an easy watch for family audiences.
