Book Launch of "Master of Suspense Hitchcock": A Celebration of Cinema and Literature
At the launch of "Master of Suspense Hitchcock," renowned director Vamsy praised the book as a remarkable achievement, noting that no one has attempted a similar feat in Indian languages. He expressed his hope that the book would soon celebrate its success as "Hyderabad's Bestseller."
The book, authored by senior journalist Pulagam Chinnarayana and IRS officer Ravi Padi, was unveiled on the occasion of Alfred Hitchcock's 125th birthday and the centenary of his first film. It features 62 essays contributed by 45 directors, 7 writers, and 10 journalists, showcasing Hitchcock's immense influence on cinema.
Director Vamsy, who launched the book, emphasized his deep admiration for Hitchcock, stating, "A movie needs three things: Script... Script... Script," a principle famously articulated by Hitchcock himself. He expressed his excitement upon receiving the first copy of the book and highlighted his close relationship with the authors.
Director Harish Shankar also attended the event, noting, "We're fortunate to have seen Hitchcock's movies, but not him. However, we can see his influence in Telugu cinema through Vamsy garu, often referred to as the 'Andhra Hitchcock.' I'm honored to receive the first copy from him." He acknowledged the rarity of books focused on films and commended Pulagam Chinnarayana's dedication to promoting literature related to the film industry.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including senior actor Nassar, directors Meher Ramesh and Mohanakrishna Indraganti, and several others from the film fraternity. Indraganti remarked on Hitchcock's innovative approach to filmmaking, stating that he believed dialogue should only be used when visuals could not convey the story. He praised the quality of the book and expressed eagerness to share it with his family and friends.
Senior actor Nassar reflected on the lack of literature about cinema, reminiscing about a book he cherished during his film school days. He expressed his delight at being part of the event and recognized the authors for their exceptional work on Hitchcock's films.
Director Meher Ramesh shared his connection with Pulagam Chinnarayana and pledged to help promote the book, while director Shiva Nageswara Rao humorously noted Vamsy’s unexpected eloquence during the event.
Pulagam Chinnarayana's literary contributions include ten previous books, and "Master of Suspense Hitchcock" marks his eleventh. He has received two Nandi Awards for Best Author and another for Best Critic, reflecting his dedication to the cinematic arts. The successful launch of this book celebrates both Hitchcock's legacy and the vibrant culture of filmmaking in India.
