"The Audience Will Connect with Baghi, My Character in Drinker Sai" – Aishwarya Sharma
The upcoming film Drinker Sai, starring Dharma and Aishwarya Sharma in the lead roles, carries the intriguing tagline Brand of Bad Boys. Directed by Kiran Tirumalasetty, the film is based on real events and is produced by Basavaraju Srinivas, Ismail Sheikh, and Basavaraju Laharidhar under the banners of Everest Cinemass and Smart Screen Entertainments. Scheduled for a grand theatrical release on the 27th of this month, Drinker Sai promises an engaging story with layered characters.
In a recent interview, Aishwarya Sharma, the film’s heroine, opened up about her role, her journey into the industry, and her experience working on the project.
On Playing Baghi
"My character in Drinker Sai is Baghi," shared Aishwarya. "When I first heard the story, I immediately recognized the strength of this character. It felt like a big responsibility to portray Baghi authentically. It was challenging but also exciting as an actress. I auditioned for the role by performing a few scenes, and seeing my own performance convinced me that I could do justice to it. I believe the audience will connect with Baghi because she’s unique yet relatable."
Baghi is depicted as an innocent yet strong-willed medical student. "She is tough, strict, rebellious, but also has a fun side. From the trailer, you might have formed a certain opinion about her, but the full depth of Baghi’s character will unfold only when you watch the film."
Journey to the Big Screen
Aishwarya revealed how her love for performing arts began early. "My father is a stage actor, and his influence shaped me in many ways. Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming an artist. Initially, I wanted to be a dancer and singer. After completing my 12th grade, I moved from Jammu to Mumbai and enrolled in an acting course. That’s where my journey began. Before Drinker Sai, I hadn’t acted in short films or web series—just a few advertisements. This is my debut as a lead actress."
Challenges
As a non-Telugu speaker, Aishwarya admitted that the language barrier was a significant challenge. "At times, I didn’t fully understand the dialogues, but I worked hard to deliver them effectively. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the filming process."
Working with Hero Dharma and Director Kiran
Aishwarya praised her co-star Dharma, who plays Sai in the film. "He has been incredibly supportive, especially when it came to dialogues. Dharma has a very different personality from his character, and he has delivered an excellent performance."
She also spoke highly of director Kiran Tirumalasetty. "Kiran is a fun-loving person and ensured there was no pressure during filming. He believed in me and supported me throughout. On set, he used to call me 'Akka,' but he insisted I call him 'Thammuddu.' It made our bond even more enjoyable."
The Film’s Themes and Music
Drinker Sai explores themes of love and deeper societal issues. "Love is an inseparable part of life, and the film presents a beautiful love story. It also delivers meaningful messages, which I don’t want to spoil for the audience," Aishwarya said.
The music, composed by Sri Vasanth, has already garnered positive responses. "The songs are beautifully composed. The sad song in particular moved me to tears," she added.
On the Comparisons with Arjun Reddy
Aishwarya addressed potential comparisons between Drinker Sai and Arjun Reddy. "There’s no comparison. Arjun Reddy showcases a classy drinker, while Sai is a more mass-oriented character. Both are unique in their own ways."
About South Indian Cinema
Aishwarya expressed her admiration for South Indian films. "My family watches a lot of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada movies. These films have meaningful stories and are made so naturally. I’m thrilled to be part of such an industry. Dhanush is my favorite actor, and I recently watched Lucky Baskhar."
As Aishwarya Sharma makes her big-screen debut with Drinker Sai, she is confident that her portrayal of Baghi will leave a lasting impression on audiences.
