“Kara Is a Rooted Emotional Drama with Thrilling Moments” – CH Satish Kumar
As Kara gears up for its Telugu theatrical release on April 30, 2026, distributor CH Satish Kumar is confident that the film will strike a chord with audiences across the region. Starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, the film is being brought to Telugu audiences by Vigneswara Entertainments.
In this exclusive conversation, Satish Kumar shares insights into his journey, why he believed in Kara, and what audiences can expect.
Q: Can you tell us about your journey into film distribution?
Satish Kumar:
I’m from Visakhapatnam, and I started my journey with small-scale film distribution. Over time, I gained experience and gradually moved into handling bigger films. I’ve distributed notable projects like Arjun Reddy, Kabali, and Singham 3 in the Uttarandhra region. One film that gave me strong confidence was Dharmayogi (the Telugu version of Kodi), which performed well. Later, I also handled Khakee. These experiences shaped my understanding of the market and pushed me toward bigger ambitions, including production.
Q: Are you working independently on Kara?
Satish Kumar:
Yes, this is a solo venture for me.
Q: What made you acquire Kara? Was it mainly Dhanush’s market?
Satish Kumar:
Not entirely. Today, content is the real driving force. Of course, Dhanush sir’s popularity adds value, but what truly convinced me was the strength of the story. It has depth and relatability.
Q: Some dubbed films struggle in Telugu. Did that concern you?
Satish Kumar:
Every film has its own journey. Raayan worked well in Telugu, while some others didn’t reach audiences effectively despite good content. With Kara, we are taking extra care in promotions and release strategy to ensure it connects properly with viewers.
Q: It’s said you were very keen on acquiring this film. Is that true?
Satish Kumar:
(Laughs) Yes, when you believe in a film, you go the extra mile. I pursued it persistently because I saw its potential. Eventually, that confidence worked in my favor.
Q: How does the business look so far?
Satish Kumar:
We’ve already recovered around 80% of the investment, which is a very positive sign before release.
Q: The trailer hints at intense elements like a bank robbery. What can audiences expect?
Satish Kumar:
I wouldn’t call it a heist film. The story revolves around an ordinary man caught in challenging circumstances and how he rises above them. There are elements like a bank robbery, but the core is emotional family, survival, and human resilience. It’s something every family can relate to.
Q: Are you releasing the film across all Telugu territories yourself?
Satish Kumar:
No, it’s being distributed territory-wise. Dil Raju is handling Nizam, and Alankar Prasad is managing Krishna district. Other areas are distributed among different partners.
Q: How wide will the release be?
Satish Kumar:
We’re expecting around 400+ confirmed screens, and if certain factors align, it could go up to 600 theatres.
Q: Why retain the title Kara in Telugu?
Satish Kumar:
The protagonist’s name is Kara Swamy, and people call him Kara. It felt natural and relatable, so we kept it unchanged.
Q: Did the director’s previous work influence your decision?
Satish Kumar:
Absolutely. Por Thozhil was a gripping film, and it gave me complete confidence in the director’s storytelling ability.
Q: What was Dhanush’s reaction after watching the film?
Satish Kumar:
He is very happy and confident. He strongly believes Kara will be a big success and even set new benchmarks.
Q: The film is set during the Gulf War era. How important is that backdrop?
Satish Kumar:
It’s set around the time of the Gulf War, when there was a fuel crisis. That element adds realism and relatability, but it’s not the main plot just an important layer in the narrative.
Q: How has the music been received?
Satish Kumar:
The response has been very encouraging. We created two songs specifically for Telugu, and “Kannamma,” written by Ramajogayya Sastry, adds emotional depth to the film.
Q: Final thoughts on Kara?
Satish Kumar:
Kara is a powerful blend of emotion and thrill. It’s not just about one character it reflects the struggles and strength of an entire family and community. Dhanush sir’s role feels very real, and I believe audiences will connect deeply with it.
Set against a tense historical backdrop, Kara promises a mix of emotional storytelling and gripping moments, making it one of the most anticipated releases this season.
