Dhandoraa Blends Emotion and Commercial Appeal Perfectly: Shivaji

Dhandoraa Is a Strong, Emotional Film with Complete Commercial Appeal,’ Says Shivaji

Veteran actor Shivaji plays a key role in the upcoming film Dhandoraa, produced by Ravindra Banerjee Muppaneni under Loukya Entertainments and directed by MuraliKanth. The film is set for a grand theatrical release on December 25.

The film features a strong ensemble cast including Navdeep, Nandu, Ravi Krishna, Manika Chikkala, Mounika Reddy, Bindu Madhavi, Radhya, and Aditi Bhavaraju. As part of promotions, Shivaji spoke to the media about the film, his character, and his journey.

On hearing the story:

I heard the story of Dhandoraa much before Court. My character immediately caught my attention because it was very different from anything I had done earlier. Due to some delays, the film took time to start, and Court released first.

About his role:

My character is intentionally written in a grey shade. While watching the film, the audience won’t be able to clearly decide whether he is good or bad. That decision is left to them. I play a farmer, but Dhandoraa is not a hero-centric film. Every character is important, and the story keeps returning to my role. Such layered characters are rare.

Is it a message film?

I wouldn’t call it a message-oriented film. It’s a proper commercial entertainer with emotions, drama, and realism. Nothing feels forced or preachy. The screenplay flows very naturally. It’s a beautifully made film.

Expectations after Court:

The response to my role in Court was huge. I believe my character in Dhandoraa will also leave a strong impact. It has many emotional shades, and as an actor, I feel lucky to get such roles. The film keeps the audience emotionally invested throughout.

On sensitive character portrayals:

Bindu Madhavi’s character is handled with great dignity and respect. The treatment is very tasteful, and audiences will surely connect with her character.

Working with new directors:

I enjoy working with new directors. Often, we underestimate our own actors and look elsewhere. In Dhandoraa, actors like Navdeep, Nandu, and Ravi Krishna are all excellent performers. I’ve been in the industry for nearly 30 years, but certain sides of me as an actor weren’t explored earlier.

Balancing light and intense roles:

I’ve enjoyed doing light-hearted films like Missamma and Shailaja Krishnamurthy as much as intense films like Court and Dhandoraa. I’m confident handling comedy, negative, and emotional roles. I just make sure not to repeat myself.

What’s next:

After Dhandoraa, I’ll be seen in Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani and Epic, directed by Aditya Hassan. Epic is a deeply emotional film that will strongly connect with families, especially fathers and sons.

Dhandoraa promises to be an emotionally rich, content-driven film with strong performances and universal appeal.
