Funky Is Different from Jathi Ratnalu and Rooted in Logic: Anudeep

“Funky is designed to entertain everyone,” says director K.V. Anudeep

After creating a new wave of comedy with Jathi Ratnalu, director K.V. Anudeep is back with Funky, aiming to deliver a wholesome dose of laughter blended with romance and emotion. The film stars “Mass Ka Das” Vishwak Sen in the lead role, opposite Kayaadu Lohar. Produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya, the film is presented by Srikara Studios and backed by Sitara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. Music is composed by Bheems Ceciroleo.

Scheduled for release on February 13, just ahead of Valentine’s Day, Funky has already built strong anticipation. Its teaser, trailer, and songs have received an encouraging response, significantly boosting expectations. Ahead of the theatrical release, director K.V. Anudeep spoke to the media and opened up about various aspects of the film.

Why the title ‘Funky’?

The title instantly feels youthful and trendy. It also reflects the personality and attitude of the protagonist perfectly.

Tell us about Vishwak Sen’s role.

Vishwak Sen plays a film director in Funky. While developing the character, I strongly felt that only he could pull it off convincingly. His comic timing, especially seen in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, is exceptional.

What kind of film is Funky? How different is it from Jathi Ratnalu?

Funky is entirely different. It’s a full-fledged romantic comedy and a clean family entertainer. The film humorously presents situations inspired by a director’s life, but in a way that common audiences can easily relate to. Along with romance, there are emotional family moments that connect strongly with real-life experiences. It’s a film that caters to all sections of the audience.

People often question logic in comedy films. What about Funky?

Comedy doesn’t mean the absence of logic. Every film I make has a logical base. Funky is no differentit has humor, but it’s rooted in sensible storytelling.

Many tried to replicate Jathi Ratnalu-style comedy but failed. Why?

Comedy works only when characters and situations feel real and organic. Forced humor never connects. Even though Funky has a film-industry backdrop, we ensured that emotions and situations feel close to everyday life.

Do you appear in the film? Any acting plans?

I appear briefly in a guest role. But my passion lies in direction. I don’t plan to become a full-time actorI have many stories I want to tell as a filmmaker.

Will you continue making only comedy films?

I want to explore different genres. While the trailer highlights comedy to grab attention, Funky also has a beautiful love story, emotional depth, and a few unexpected surprises.

Who are the guest appearances?

Directors Harish Shankar and Kalyan Shankar, along with producers Dil Raju and Naga Vamsi, appear in guest roles. Their presence is organically woven into the narrative, creating humor through natural conversations.

Did the outcome of Prince affect you?

Success and failure are part of the journey. Prince suffered due to lack of time in script development. For Funky, we took enough time to fine-tune the script, and the result is something we’re confident about.

Who heard the story first?

I first narrated it to Naga Vamsi. He immediately liked the idea and came on board.

Did Trivikram watch the film?

Yes, he watched it during post-production and appreciated it. His feedback and suggestions were very valuable.

About working with Chinababu (S. Radha Krishna)?

I worked closely with him throughout the film. He was deeply involved and provided many useful inputs.

Tell us about Naresh’s role.

The character suits him perfectly. While writing it, I couldn’t imagine anyone else in that role. I’ve admired him since childhood and was happy to collaborate again after Jathi Ratnalu.

How was it working with music director Bheems Ceciroleo?

It was a very smooth collaboration. He is respectful, supportive, and always available. He has given excellent music for Funky.

What’s the censor update?

The film’s runtime is 2 hours and 5 minutes. It has received a U/A certificate, and the censor board appreciated the content.

What’s next for you?

I have commitments with three production houses. I’m currently working on a female-centric story and also developing a script for Venkatesh garu.

With humor, heart, and relatability at its core, Funky promises a fun-filled theatrical experience for audiences of all ages.
