Rākāsā is a Film Meant to Be Experienced in Theatres – Director Manasa Sharma (Interview)
Presented by Zee Studios, Rākāsā is produced by Niharika Konidela under Pink Elephant Pictures in association with Umesh Kumar Bansal. Directed by Manasa Sharma, the film stars Sangeeth Shobhan and Nayan Sarika in lead roles. With its glimpses, teaser, songs, and promotional content already creating buzz, the director recently interacted with the media and shared insights about the film.
Tell us about your background?
Manasa Sharma:
I’m from Srikakulam. I began my journey with YouTube content, creating Mad House. Later, I worked as the creator and writer for Oka Chinna Family Story, and then made the Bench Life series. Rākāsā is my fourth project, and it’s something very fresh with a mix of fantasy and adventure.
What is the core idea of Rākāsā?
Manasa Sharma:
It’s a fantasy adventure with a strong dose of comedy. While the teaser has already given a glimpse, the trailer will reveal much more about the film’s world. The movie blends humor with a touch of horror, making it a complete entertainer.
How did Sangeeth Shobhan come on board?
Manasa Sharma:
Initially, I pitched Rākāsā as a series idea for Netflix. That’s when Sangeeth heard the story and loved it instantly. He’s a fantastic actor and a wonderful person. I really enjoy his comic timing, which adds great value to the film.
What challenges did you face during the making?
Manasa Sharma:
Whether it’s a web series or a film, the making process is quite similar—the real difference lies in writing. During production, there aren’t many differences. I took extra responsibility to ensure that the final output impressed Niharika. After narrating the story for about 15 minutes, she was confident and gave the green signal.
Tell us about Nayan Sarika’s role?
Manasa Sharma:
Nayan Sarika is a very talented actress. She follows the director’s vision perfectly. I’ve worked with her before, and based on her performance and skill, I brought her into this project. Audiences will definitely love her character.
There are talks about the budget going higher your take?
Manasa Sharma:
We always planned to stay within budget. Of course, minor fluctuations happen in any project. But since the entire team was prepared, we managed to keep things largely under control.
What makes Rākāsā unique?
Manasa Sharma:
Rākāsā is truly a theatrical experience. The story is completely fictional and feels like a beautiful fairytale. Every character is engaging, and the film stands out visually and sonically. It’s something audiences should watch on the big screen.
Did VFX work cause delays?
Manasa Sharma:
The second half of the film heavily relies on VFX. So, we shot the second half first while the VFX work was progressing, and later completed the first half. This parallel process helped us save time.
How is Anudeep’s music?
Manasa Sharma:
Niharika suggested Anudeep, and he has delivered fantastic music. The background score for the teaser has already received a great response. His work is one of the film’s biggest strengths.
Your experience working with producer Niharika Konidela?
Manasa Sharma:
I share a great bond with Niharika. Projects under Pink Elephant Pictures are always handled efficiently without unnecessary delays. She’s a balanced and supportive producer who ensures everything runs smoothly.
What’s next for you?
Manasa Sharma:
I have a few ideas and stories in mind. Whatever I do next, I’ll make sure it has strong entertainment value with comedy as a key element. I’ll share more details after Rākāsā releases.
