Set for grand special premieres on October 31, Mass Jathara has already created strong anticipation among fans and cine-lovers alike. The teaser, trailer, and songs have received massive appreciation, heightening expectations further. Following the energetic pre-release event, director Bhanu Bhogavarapu interacted with the media and revealed several interesting insights about the film.
On what makes ‘Mass Jathara’ special
This film has strong mass elements along with a fresh concept, Bhanu said. The story unfolds in the backdrop of the railway police department. The crimes and events that take place in this setting will feel new to audiences. In fact, it was Ravi Teja garu who suggested the title Mass Jathara after hearing the story. Once that title was fixed, it doubled my responsibilityI made sure the film truly lives up to it. The audience will witness quite a few surprises in theatres.
On the inspiration behind the story
It’s a fictional story, he clarified, but I did a lot of research before writing it. I met several railway police officers, understood their powers, and listened to their real-life incidents. That helped me craft some authentic sequences inspired by their experiences.
On directing Ravi Teja’s 75th film
We didn’t initially know it was Ravi Teja garu’s 75th film, Bhanu revealed. After the project was confirmed, we realized it marked that milestone. He encouraged me not to get pressured by the number and to focus only on making a good film.
On Naveen Chandra’s role
Naveen Chandra plays Shivudu, a powerful antagonist. We initially considered a few other actors but weren’t fully convinced. When I narrated the story to Naveen garu, he instantly connected with it. We worked on a special makeover and photoshoot, which impressed everyone including producer Naga Vamsi garu. He delivered an outstanding performance that audiences will surely talk about after the release.
On Sreeleela’s character
For the character Tulasi, we never considered anyone else, Bhanu said. Even while writing the script, we instinctively imagined Sreeleela in that role. Though she had already shared great chemistry with Ravi Teja garu in Dhamaka, we didn’t cast her for that reasonshe simply fit perfectly. Her role has a lot of importance in the story, and audiences will see a fresh side of her. The chemistry between Ravi Teja and Sreeleela will remind you of the fun energy seen between Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanti in Gang Leader.
On choosing a mass subject for his directorial debut
As a writer, I’m known for comedy, he said. Initially, I wanted to debut with a romantic comedy like Samajavaragamana. But everyone around me encouraged me to do a strong mass story. That’s how Mass Jathara took shape. When you think of mass, Ravi Teja garu is the first name that comes to mind. Though he has done several police roles before, I wanted to bring a new flavor through the railway police setup.
On comparisons with Ravi Teja’s earlier police roles
As a fan of Ravi Teja garu, I’m aware of how iconic his police roles are, like Vikramarkudu, Bhanu explained. That’s why I paid extra attention to ensure the story and screenplay feel completely fresh.
On the fun callbacks in the trailer
You’ll notice a few references to Ravi Teja’s cult hits like Venky and Idiot, Bhanu smiled. They were included to celebrate his iconic momentsnot to distract from the story. Fans will love those nostalgic touches.
On the other characters
Every actorfrom Ravi Teja, Sreeleela, and Naveen Chandra to Rajendra Prasad garuhas a strong role. The emotional drama between these characters has shaped up beautifully. That’s why everyone, including Rajendra Prasad garu, is confident about the film.
On Bheems Ceciroleo’s music
It was Ravi Teja garu who suggested Bheems’ name, Bhanu said. Their combo delivered the chartbuster Dhamaka, so I was excited to collaborate with him. The very first song he composed‘Tu Mera Lover’impressed me instantly.
On the action sequences
The action scenes are one of the film’s major highlights, he noted. Ravi Teja garu worked extremely hard and even got injured a couple of times during shooting. Yet, thanks to his dedication, we were able to finish the film smoothly and with great energy.
On producer Naga Vamsi’s support
Though this is my debut as a director, Naga Vamsi garu supported me immensely, Bhanu said. He never compromised on production qualityhe built a massive ₹6.5 crore railway station set and another large setup for the Jathara episode. For a newcomer like me, that kind of trust and backing means a lot.
On what audiences can expect
Mass Jathara has everything fans expect from a Ravi Teja filmentertainment, emotion, comedy, and powerful actionbut with a completely fresh approach. I’m confident audiences will have a great time.
On future projects
I’m currently working as a writer on a few upcoming films, Bhanu concluded. As for my next directorial, the script is ready, and I’ll be sharing the details soon.
