Director Dr. Anil Vishwanath on 28°C: A Unique Story That Will Captivate Audiences
Dr. Anil Vishwanath, known for his directorial success with Polimera, is all set for the theatrical release of his first film, 28°C, on April 4th. Starring Naveen Chandra and Shalini Vadnikatti, the film is produced by Sai Abhishek under Veeranjaneya Productions. In a recent interview, the director shared insights into the journey behind 28°C and his future projects.
"28°C holds a special place in my heart because it’s my first film. I fell in love with the script back in 2017, and as we worked on it, the budget expanded since we didn’t want to compromise on quality. Initially set for release in May 2020, the pandemic changed our plans. While we received OTT offers, they didn’t justify the investment we had made. We decided to wait for a theatrical release, and in hindsight, I believe it was the right decision."
The film revolves around two medical students and integrates supernatural and thriller elements into their love story. A key aspect of the plot is the scientific concept behind 28°C how individuals with brain damage struggle with extreme temperatures. The question mark in the title is a deliberate choice to keep audiences intrigued until the climax.
The team initially considered Adivi Sesh for the lead role, but due to scheduling conflicts, Naveen Chandra came on board. The film's shoot included a challenging schedule in Georgia, where the team faced multiple setbacks, from being sent back twice to losing camera equipment upon arrival. "We had to buy new gear in Georgia and continue shooting. These experiences were so intense that I’m considering writing a book about them," shared Anil Vishwanath.
The delay in 28°C’s release tested the director both personally and professionally. "There were moments when I thought of giving up. But during this period, I wrote Polimera, and its success restored my confidence. Now, I’m working on Polimera 3, and I strongly believe 28°C will be well-received, especially given the buzz it has created."
Vamsi Nandipati, a close friend, stepped in to support the release, ensuring a wide theater presence. Naveen Chandra’s family, after watching the film, expressed immense joy and pride. Despite the delays, Anil Vishwanath is relieved that no similar story has been released in theaters or on OTT. "The film is tightly edited to just two hours, keeping the narrative sharp and engaging," he added.
With 28°C set for release, the director is focused on Polimera 3, which will feature a period backdrop and extensive CGI work. Planned for a Sankranti release next year, the film is being developed on a grand scale with a pan-India appeal and a major star in a key role.
Additionally, he is involved in 12A Railway Colony, starring Allari Naresh, where his team member Nani Kasaragadda will direct, and he has written the screenplay. He also revealed plans for an investigative crime thriller with Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas. "Having faced struggles early in my career, I now want to support my colleagues and contribute to meaningful cinema," he concluded.
With 28°C promising a fresh cinematic experience, audiences can look forward to an engaging mix of love, thrill, and the unexplored science behind the film’s intriguing title.
