“Doordarshini” Is a Heartfelt Emotional Journey That Will Stay With Audiences: Director Karthikeya Kommi
Upcoming Telugu film Doordarshini, featuring Suvikshit and Geethika Ratan in lead roles, is gearing up for release on May 15. Carrying the tagline “Kalipindi Iddarini”, the film is inspired by a true incident and is produced by M. Jay Shankar Reddy and Patimeedi Santosh under the Varaha Movie Makers banner. Director Karthikeya Kommi opened up about the film, its emotional depth, nostalgic backdrop, and the real-life inspiration behind the story.
Speaking about his journey, Karthikeya said he previously directed films like Saadhyam, Vasool Raja, and Lakshmi Bomb. He described Doordarshini as a special project because it is rooted in reality and made with a natural, authentic approach. Unlike his earlier films, this project features newcomers in the lead roles, which he found both exciting and refreshing.
Explaining the core theme, the director said the film explores the emotional clash between the expectations of parents, society, and the choices made by children. Set against the backdrop of the 1990s, the story captures the nostalgia surrounding the iconic television program Chitralahari, which once brought families and communities together.
According to him, the film is much more than a simple love story. It blends romance with strong emotional elements that reflect family bonds, societal pressures, and village life. He believes audiences who grew up during the Chitralahari era will strongly connect with the emotions and memories recreated in the film.
Addressing comparisons with the recently released Thimmarajupalli TV, Karthikeya clarified that the two films are entirely different. While Doordarshini also has a nostalgic setting, its story is centered on deep emotional drama, especially the father-son relationship, which he says forms the emotional backbone of the film.
The director confirmed that the story draws inspiration from the life of an elderly man currently living in Arunachalam. The incident originally took place in Andhra Pradesh. After interacting with the man and listening to his experiences, the team developed the screenplay around the painful circumstances that forced him into begging because of his own son.
Karthikeya emphasized that the film stays close to reality and avoids unnecessary cinematic exaggeration. With its rural setting and emotionally grounded storytelling, he feels audiences will experience the simplicity and warmth of village life while revisiting old memories from the past.
Talking about the climax, he shared that the ending is designed to leave viewers emotional and thoughtful long after they leave the theatre. Though the story contains tragic moments, the screenplay ultimately delivers emotional satisfaction and a meaningful conclusion.
He also revealed that working with newcomers Suvikshit and Geethika Ratan was a memorable experience, praising their performances as one of the film’s biggest strengths. Their natural acting, he said, brought added depth and sincerity to the narrative.
The director concluded by revealing that he is preparing to begin work on another large-scale project later this August.
