Producers Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi on Raju Weds Rambai

Raju Weds Rambai” A Heart-Touching Love Story Inspired by Real Events, Say Producers Venu Udugula & Rahul Mopidevi

Raju Weds Rambai, starring Akhil and Tejaswi, is getting ready for its theatrical release on November 21st. The film is produced by Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi under Dolamukhi Subaltern Films and Monsoon Tales, with support from ETV Win Originals, Vamsi Nandipati Entertainment, and Bunny Vas Works. The film is directed by Sailu Kaampati.

In a recent interaction, the producers shared how this project took shape and why the story is so special.

 Producer Venu Udugula’s Insights

Venu Udugula said that the story is inspired by a shocking real-life incident that happened between Khammam and Warangal. Director Sailu, who once worked with him, narrated the incident, and Venu felt instantly connected to it. Although the backdrop is real, the film is presented in a mainstream, engaging format.

He shared that the movie is emotional yet entertaining, and unlike many real-incident-based love stories, this film ends on a positive note. He hopes that after watching it, some parents may look at their daughters’ love choices with more understanding.

The makers avoided using real names or village details out of respect for the actual families. Venu also highlighted the powerful music by Suresh Bobbili, whom he has known since their early days in the industry.

Akhil was chosen quickly for the lead role, but the search for the right heroine took longer. They wanted a Telugu girl for authenticity, and Tejaswi fit perfectly. Workshops were conducted with the lead pair and local actors to make the performances feel natural.

He also spoke about actor Chaitanya, who plays the heroine’s father. Despite coming from a corporate job in the US, he impressed the team and is now being recognized as a talented new face.

Venu believes Raju Weds Rambai will stand alongside memorable love stories like Baby, 7G Brundavan Colony, Sairat, and Premisthe. He said he became a producer to bring meaningful stories to the screen, not just to make films for the sake of it.

Producer Rahul Mopidevi’s Perspective

Rahul explained that the film is based on a love story that took place 15 years ago. The incident is still talked about in that region, and since director Sailu belongs to the same area, he developed the story with added drama to suit the big screen.

The team shot the movie in the actual village where the event happened. With no mobile network, heavy rains, and long daily travel from the hotel, the shoot was extremely challenging. At one point, a bridge collapsed, forcing the entire 80-member crew to stay in the village overnight.

Local villagers were also trained and included in the film, adding authenticity. Rahul praised Akhil and Tejaswi for adapting perfectly to the Telangana dialect and delivering strong performances.

With experience in television production, Rahul said this film was a smoother process for him. Raju Weds Rambai is now ready for release across both Telugu states.
