Akhil Raj and Tejaswini, the lead pair of Raju Weds Rambai, shared their heartfelt experiences and journey with the film ahead of its release on November 21. The movie is directed by Sailu Kampati and produced by Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi.
Hero Akhil Raj:
Akhil says becoming an actor was his lifelong dream. After Intermediate, he entered the industry, working as a media anchor, photographer, and in YouTube short films like Sakhiya and Evandoi Owner Garu. He acted in Vindubhojanam, which later released on Aha.
During the lockdown, he took theatre training and continued auditioning. After several rounds with director Sailu, producers, and ETV Win, he finally bagged the role of Raju.
Akhil trained for two months to play the dappu drum and learned the native village accent from the director. He says Raju is a character every young man will relate to there is love, pain, anger, and strength. The script, especially the climax, moved him deeply.
He shares that he struggled for 10 years in the industry, and he believes this film will be his turning point. He turned down other offers to focus completely on Raju Weds Rambai. Akhil is confident that the climax will shock audiences and that the film already has strong buzz. He’s also excited about his upcoming project Small Town Boys with Suresh Productions and another film with Anupama and Tharun Bhascker.
Heroine Tejaswini:
Tejaswini started her journey in 2019 with a short film, followed by her debut Committee Kurrollu. Through director Yadhu Vamsi, she got introduced to Raju Weds Rambai and was selected to play Rambai.
Born and raised in Rajahmundry, she worked hard on the Telangana dialect with Sailu’s guidance. She says she portrayed Rambai exactly as the director imagined natural, simple, and emotional. After the trailer release, many appreciated her performance.
According to her, Rambai is one of those rare roles with depth she is cheerful, strong, emotional, and desperate for her father’s approval. The climax portion deeply affected her while shooting, and the last 30 minutes will leave a big impact on the audience.
Tejaswini feels Raju Weds Rambai will be remembered like 7/G Brindavan Colony, Premisthe, Baby, and Sairat. Though inspired by a real incident, it has cinematic touches as well.
She is currently working on a Tamil film with Prabhu Solomon and listening to new Telugu scripts.
