‘Laila’ is a Fun Ride – A Film to Enjoy for Two Hours: Producer Sahu Garapati
On this occasion, producer Sahu Garapati shared insights about the film in a media interaction.
What elements attracted you to produce Laila?
- The main attraction was the comedy. Additionally, I liked that a hero was willing to accept such a unique role. We had approached a few other actors before, but playing a lady get-up is not easy. When Vishwak agreed to do it, I was intrigued and decided to proceed with the project.
- It has been a long time since such stories were made. We strongly believed in the film’s potential and moved forward with confidence. Vishwak is a highly energetic actor. As soon as he heard the story, he said, “This is a role I must do.” The film blends romance with fun entertainment.
How are the characters of Laila and Sonu balanced in the film?
- The first half revolves around Sonu, with his love story taking center stage. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he transforms into Laila and tries to prove his innocence. The reason behind this transformation is deeply emotional.
- Vishwak’s Laila get-up has received a tremendous response. Everyone feels his look is perfect. Personally, I would give more marks to Laila than Sonu.
The trailer gives off an adult comedy vibe. Such films tend to work better in Bollywood, right?
- Adult comedy exists everywhere. Just open Twitter, and you’ll see that content everywhere. Compared to that, our film is quite mild. The hero playing a lady character and speaking in a Deccan dialect, which some might not understand, led to the A certificate, but the film itself doesn’t contain adult comedy. The dialogues are just like our regular conversations.
The film seems targeted at the youth.
- Yes, we aimed at the youth, but family audiences will also enjoy it. It’s a film made with the sole intention of making people laugh. We believe we have succeeded in that.
Megastar Chiranjeevi is attending the event tomorrow. Has he watched the trailer?
- Yes, he watched it and appreciated Vishwak’s effort, saying it was a fresh attempt. He really liked the trailer, and we are fortunate that he is supporting us by attending the event.
When will you start your film with Chiranjeevi?
- It will start in May or June and release for next Sankranti. It will be a perfect commercial film in Anil Ravipudi’s signature style, featuring Chiranjeevi in a vintage mass role.
Tell us about director Ram Narayan.
- He has successfully presented Vishwak’s character as per his vision. He has crafted the film beautifully. The title Laila was decided by him right when he wrote the script, and he has executed it perfectly.
What about the other characters in the film?
- Abhimanyu Singh plays a crucial role throughout the film. While he is mostly seen as a villain, his character in Laila is completely entertaining, giving audiences a new experience.
What is the emotional core of Laila?
- Laila is a complete entertainer set against a Hyderabad backdrop. It also has a touching mother sentiment. Overall, the film is a fun ride meant to make audiences laugh for two hours.
What advice do you have for aspiring producers?
- To be frank, the market is a bit challenging. If you manage your budget wisely, it’s fine, but if costs go beyond control, it becomes tough for anyone.
How involved are you in the storytelling process?
- We move forward only after liking the story. Changes happen throughout the process. If I feel something needs to be altered, I suggest it. We stay involved in every aspect until the final edit is locked.
What’s the update on your film with Bellamkonda?
- About 70% of the shooting is complete. It’s a horror thriller, scheduled for release in June. Along with this, we have a few more movies in the pipeline, with scripting work currently in progress.
All the best!
- Thank you!
