‘KilleR’ Trailer Impresses Harish Shankar; Poorvaaj Announces ₹1 Crore Prize for Guessing the Climax Twist
The sci-fi action thriller starring Jyoti Poorvaj and Poorvaaj is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 30.
The upcoming science-fiction thriller ‘KilleR’ is gearing up for its theatrical arrival on October 30, with its recently unveiled trailer sparking curiosity through its unconventional characters, futuristic concepts and layers of mystery. The film’s trailer was launched at a grand event in Hyderabad, attended by blockbuster filmmaker Harish Shankar, who praised the visual quality and technical standards showcased in the promotional footage.
Starring Jyoti Poorvaj and Poorvaaj in the lead roles, the film also features Manish Gilada, Chandrakanth Kollu, Ayyinabathina Dasaratha Madhav, Vishal Raj, Archana Ananth and Gautham Chakradhar Koppisetti in significant roles. Directed by Poorvaaj, the film is produced by Poorvaaj and A. Padmanabha Reddy under the banners of Think Cinema and AU & I Studios, with Urveesh Poorvaj presenting it. OMG Pictures is handling its overseas distribution.
Speaking at the trailer launch, director Harish Shankar expressed his admiration for the quality achieved by the team, particularly considering the film’s budget and production scale. He observed that the trailer itself reflected the effort invested in the project and appreciated Poorvaaj’s determination to bring an ambitious concept to the screen.
Harish Shankar also referred to the film’s intriguing Neuralink-related premise and its combination with a Super She character, calling the concept interesting. He noted that Poorvaaj’s earlier films had arrived during the lockdown period and expressed his hope that ‘KilleR’ would bring the director the recognition he deserves. He extended his best wishes to the entire team.
Director and producer Poorvaaj revealed that the film has been developed around an unconventional science-fiction narrative, with the story moving through three timelines: 2024, 2025 and 2026. According to him, the teaser introduced Jyoti Poorvaj in multiple avatars, including a terrorist, housewife, vampire, spy and Super She, while the trailer expands the mystery surrounding her identity.
The filmmaker explained that the story follows a police investigation into whether her character is an alien, a woman possessing extraordinary abilities or something entirely different. He also identified the interval sequence as a major highlight, promising that the second half would take the narrative in an unexpected direction.
In an unusual promotional announcement, Poorvaaj challenged audiences to predict the film’s second-half twist. He announced a ₹1 crore prize for anyone who correctly guesses the twist within five minutes of the interval, with entries to be submitted through a WhatsApp number that the team will provide. The winner, he said, would receive the prize at the film’s success meet. The contest's official terms and participation details are yet to be specified in the announcement.
Poorvaaj further disclosed that the film’s visual-effects work took longer than anticipated. Although the original release plan targeted March or April, the team chose to postpone the film rather than compromise on the quality of its VFX. He said the final version runs for approximately two hours, compared with the 2-hour-and-15-minute footage initially shot.
The director also stated that the film had received encouraging business interest, with distribution rights for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka sold, and overseas distribution arrangements completed. He added that the film would also be released in Kannada and Tamil and that offers had come from two OTT platforms.
Speaking about the project, Jyoti Poorvaj described ‘KilleR’ as a distinctive film built around international-style science-fiction concepts and an unconventional screenplay. She recalled that the team began its journey two years ago during Navaratri, visiting temples dedicated to Goddess Durga and offering prayers before taking the film forward.
The actress said the project gave her an opportunity to explore a range of characters, each requiring different makeovers, body language and performance styles. She expressed confidence in Poorvaaj’s creative vision and said she hoped the film would allow audiences to recognise her abilities as an actress beyond her television work.
Jyoti added that the team approached the project out of passion for the subject and hoped viewers would judge the performances and storytelling on their own merits.
Producer A. Padmanabha Reddy spoke about his association with Poorvaaj, recalling that the director first approached him five years ago with an ambitious story. Although the scale of the concept initially raised questions about whether a debut filmmaker could execute it, Poorvaaj later presented several more ideas that strengthened the producer’s confidence in his creative abilities.
He praised the director for continuing to support the people around him throughout his filmmaking journey and expressed happiness at seeing the team’s work receive recognition. Having watched the completed film, he said he was pleased with the result and hoped the project would lead to further collaborations.
Chief editor B. Manoj Kumar praised Poorvaaj’s creative approach and said he enjoyed collaborating with the filmmaker because of the freedom he provided during the editing process. He expressed confidence that the film would keep audiences engaged.
Cinematographer Jagadeesh Bommishetty, who has worked with Poorvaaj previously, highlighted the director’s unconventional ideas and the team's efforts to translate his vision onto the screen. Actor Chandu expressed gratitude for the support he had received from media professionals and hoped the film would bring recognition to its cast and crew.
Actor Gautham Chakradhar Koppisetti singled out Jyoti Poorvaj’s performances across six different characters, praising her preparation and action sequences. He also said her commitment to physically demanding roles could inspire young women to take an interest in martial arts.
‘KilleR’ Heads to Theatres on October 30
With its futuristic ideas, multiple character transformations, investigative storyline and promise of an unpredictable second half, ‘KilleR’ is positioning itself as an unconventional addition to Telugu cinema’s science-fiction thriller space. The team’s decision to extend the post-production schedule in pursuit of visual quality has also been highlighted as a key part of the film’s journey.
Whether the film delivers on the mysteries teased in its trailer will become clear when ‘KilleR’ arrives in theatres worldwide on October 30.
