‘Raaka’ Sets a New Benchmark in Motion-Capture Technology, Enters Guinness World Records
Icon Star Allu Arjun’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Raaka’ has created a remarkable milestone for Indian cinema by securing a place in the Guinness World Records for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time.”
Directed by V. Arunkumar (Atlee) and produced by Sun Pictures’ Kalanithi Maran, the film achieved the record by simultaneously motion-capturing 37 performers in real time during a single session. The record-breaking exercise was carried out in February 2026, while the achievement was officially certified by Guinness World Records on September 15, 2026.
The prestigious certificate was presented to Allu Arjun and director V. Arunkumar by Swapnil Dangrikar, Senior Adjudicator, Guinness World Records, at a special gathering attended by members of the film’s cast and crew.
What made the feat particularly challenging was the wide age range of the performers. The group included participants ranging from a four-year-old child to a 70-year-old, with the team required to capture all 37 performances simultaneously while maintaining the accuracy and individuality of every performance within a single capture volume.
To make the ambitious sequence possible, the film’s VFX team developed a specialised motion-capture pipeline and workflow designed specifically around the scale and technical demands of ‘Raaka’.
The record attempt involved an extensive technological setup featuring 92 optical motion-capture cameras, along with systems for calibration, networking, synchronisation, real-time Unreal Engine visualisation, witness cameras, facial capture and other specialised technical operations. Multiple teams worked together to ensure that the entire process was executed with precision.
The achievement reflects the combined efforts of Sun Pictures, director V. Arunkumar, Allu Arjun, Apple Art Studio, the film’s VFX team and several technical specialists who contributed to bringing the ambitious motion-capture exercise to life.
More than just a Guinness World Record, the achievement highlights the growing scale and technological ambition of Indian filmmaking. By bringing together large-scale production, advanced visual-effects technology and real-time performance capture, ‘Raaka’ has placed an Indian film production in the global spotlight for its work in cutting-edge cinematic technology.
