The fun we had while making Romanchakam is what audiences will experience in theatres – Ananthika Sanilkumar
Presented by blockbuster filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga and produced by Pranay Reddy Vanga under Bhadrakali Pictures, Romanchakam stars Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar in the lead roles. Directed by debutant Venugopal Reddy, the film is a youthful entertainer that combines romance, comedy and suspense. The movie is set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 3.
Speaking to the media, Ananthika Sanilkumar opened up about her role, working with the team and what audiences can expect from the film.
After 8 Vasantalu, I heard several scripts, but I didn’t feel strongly connected to any of them. When I listened to the story of Romanchakam, I immediately liked it and felt that it was the kind of film I wanted to do. My character is a bubbly, cheerful and fun-loving girl. I had always wanted to play a role like this.
The film has all the emotions that young audiences enjoy. It is not just a romantic story. There is a lot of humour and suspense as well. I play a Tamil girl, and the story includes many situations and elements that today’s youth can easily relate to. At the same time, I feel the film can be enjoyed by family audiences too.
Sumanth Prabhas and I have good chemistry in the film. He did an extensive workshop for his character, and we also rehearsed several scenes together. His character is full of energy, and my character matches that energy. Our conversations and scenes are lively and natural. They have a good flow and keep moving without feeling slow.
Romanchakam is very different from 8 Vasantalu. I wanted to explore romantic films along with intense emotional stories, and this film gave me that opportunity. I also enjoy musical dramas, and Romanchakam has a strong musical element. Among the songs, Radharamana is my favourite.
There are many scenes in the film that I enjoyed performing. Sometimes, as an actor, you genuinely feel happy while doing a scene, and there are several such moments in this movie. Sandeep sir appreciated my performance, so I am excited to see how the audience receives it.
When I first met Sumanth Prabhas, we spoke for a long time and I immediately felt comfortable with him. That helped us build our chemistry. We rehearsed some lengthy scenes together, which made our performances more natural.
My first impression of producer Pranay Reddy was that he might be a serious person. But after spending time with him, I realised that he is actually very friendly and fun-loving.
I am currently working across Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam cinema. I choose films based on the opportunities and the characters that come my way. I have been connected with art from a very young age. I started learning different art forms, including dance and performance, from my LKG days. These experiences have played an important role in shaping me as an actress.
Dance has also helped me understand characters better. We perform dances based on characters such as Krishna and Satyabhama, and portraying different personalities through dance has helped me improve my acting.
I received a lot of love for my performance in 8 Vasantalu. I hope Romanchakam gives me another opportunity to connect with audiences and also brings good recognition to Sumanth Prabhas. As an actress, I want to keep experimenting with different characters, genres and stories. If I get the right opportunity, I would also love to be part of a dance-based film.
The film revolves around three major emotions love, humour and suspense. Personally, I enjoyed the suspense the most. Interestingly, the suspense in the story is also connected to love. How these elements come together is something audiences will discover in theatres.
This character is very different from what I have done before. We had a lot of fun and positive energy while making Romanchakam. I strongly believe the audience will experience the same excitement and enjoy the film just as much in theatres.
