Story

Jay, whose full name is Mrithyunjay (Sri Vishnu), works in the advertisement section of a newspaper but dreams of becoming a crime reporter one day. During a visit to collect details for an obituary advertisement, he learns about the sudden death of Achyut Rao (Bala Aditya), which is believed to have occurred due to an electric shock. The grief of Achyut Rao’s daughter Anjali moves Jay deeply, and he promises her that he will uncover the truth behind the incident.

Soon after, another person dies under similar circumstances. While the police consider these deaths to be accidents, Jay begins to suspect that something more sinister is involved. Determined to prove his instincts right, he starts investigating on his own. As he digs deeper into the mystery, he eventually teams up with ACP Sita Parashuram (Reba Monica John). Together, they try to identify the mastermind behind the series of mysterious deaths.

Performances

Sri Vishnu steps out of his comfort zone with this film and takes on a more serious and investigative role. As Jay, he delivers a composed and believable performance, portraying the curiosity and determination of a man eager to expose the truth. His performance works particularly well in the investigative and emotional sequences.

Veer Aaryan stands out as the antagonist. His character is portrayed as intelligent and calculating, and he brings a controlled intensity to the role. The confrontational moments between him and Sri Vishnu in the latter half add a good layer of tension to the narrative.

Reba Monica John appears as a confident police officer and performs her role with conviction. She adds weight to the investigation track, and her presence in the climax portions gives the film an added boost. Overall, the supporting cast also contributes well and helps move the story forward effectively.

Technical Aspects

From a technical standpoint, Mrithyunjay benefits from a solid effort by the crew. Director Shri Hussain Sha Kiran shows promise in handling the suspense and investigative elements of the story. The cat-and-mouse dynamic between the hero and the antagonist is presented in an engaging way, though the film might have felt even stronger with a tighter first half.

Kaala Bhairava’s background score enhances the tension and emotional depth of several scenes, playing an important role in maintaining the film’s mood. Vidya Sagar’s cinematography captures the film’s tone effectively, especially during the interval and climax portions where the visual presentation stands out.

The production values are neat and give the film a polished appearance. While Sreekar Prasad’s editing keeps the narrative flowing reasonably well, a sharper cut in the early portions could have made the pacing more gripping.

Verdict

Mrithyunjay is an engaging investigative thriller that works largely because of its interesting premise, sincere performances, and strong technical support. Although the first half could have been crisper, the film manages to hold attention with its suspenseful narrative and effective confrontation between the hero and the villain. For viewers who enjoy mystery-driven dramas, Mrithyunjay offers a fairly satisfying watch.
