Actor Praveen, widely recognized for his comedic and character roles, is stepping into the spotlight as the lead for the very first time in the upcoming film Bakāsura Restaurant. Described as a "hunger comedy entertainer," the movie creatively fuses elements of horror, thriller, comedy, and emotion to offer audiences a truly unique cinematic experience.
Under the direction of SJ Shiva, Bakāsura Restaurant stars Viva Harsha in the titular role, alongside a talented cast including Krishna Bhagavan, Shining Phani, and KGF’s Garuda Ram. Produced by Lakshmaiah Achari and Janardhan Achari through SJ Movies, the film is slated for a worldwide release on August 8.
Here’s an exclusive excerpt from our interview with Praveen:
What’s the story behind Bakāsura Restaurant?
The narrative centers on five characters, with me playing Paramesh the heart of the story. My character is a rollercoaster of fun and deep feelings, driven by ambition and the journey to achieve it, told in a captivating way.
Taking on the lead role is a big step do you feel the pressure?
Absolutely, there’s some weight on my shoulders. This isn’t a run-of-the-mill role; the story blends horror, thriller, and mythology. Since my character drives the plot alongside four others, the responsibility is real. But our director handled everything with such clarity, and now, promoting the film and connecting with the audience is my mission. I’m fortunate to have great industry support.
Will your character keep audiences entertained?
Without a doubt! While there’s plenty of humor, the role also dives deep into emotional territory. Balancing that emotional intensity was challenging, and the story wraps up on a poignant, heartfelt note.
Tell us about the foodie ghost does it trouble you much?
It’s a fresh, conceptual idea. The foodie ghost creates mischief in a way that’s both fun and emotionally touching.
Did you have any input on the film’s budget?
Even though we went a bit over the original budget, the final product is truly rewarding. I’m confident everyone will appreciate it.
Many think a comedian turning lead might do fewer comedy roles. What’s your take?
Not at all! That happens only if I start thinking of myself as just a "hero." I’m simply taking on a lead role in this film and will continue doing diverse roles in projects like Vishwambhara, Ustaad Bhagat Singh, Mass Jathara, Lenin, and Aakashamlo Oka Thaara. I welcome any role a director offers.
Is it true Dil Raju is backing the film’s release?
Yes! Sirish garu saw the movie, loved the story, and decided to distribute it under the SVC banner.
What makes Bakāsura Restaurant stand out?
The climax hits hard emotionally like when a close friend has to leave for unavoidable reasons, leaving an ache within. That raw human emotion shines through and will resonate deeply with the audience.
Does playing the lead feel like a pleasure or pressure?
I’ve learned to transform pressure into pleasure. Every film brings its own set of challenges, and that keeps me motivated.
What types of lead roles would you like to do next?
I’m open to all kinds of roles. But if I play the lead again, I want it to be entertaining people associate me with comedy, so I want to keep delivering the fun they expect.
What do you want the audience to feel when they leave the theater?
I want them to have enjoyed loads of entertainment throughout and walk away with the emotional depth of the climax staying with them a lasting impact that lingers long after the credits roll.
Bakāsura Restaurant promises a blend of laughter, thrills, and heartfelt moments, making it a must-watch this August. Actor Praveen’s leap into the lead role marks an exciting new chapter in his diverse career.
