Vijay Deverakonda Clarifies His Statement from Retro Event
Actor Vijay Deverakonda has responded to the recent backlash over a comment he made during the Retro pre-release event. A clip from his speech went viral, sparking controversy and concern among some sections of the public.
To clear the air, Vijay shared a heartfelt message explaining his side of the story. He emphasized that his words were taken out of context and that he had no intention of hurting anyone, especially the Scheduled Tribes community, whom he deeply respects.
In his note, Vijay wrote,
“I’ve come to know that a comment I made at the Retro audio launch has upset some people. I want to make it clear that I never meant to hurt or target anyone, especially our Scheduled Tribes, who are a respected and valued part of our country.
My message was actually about unity about how we are one nation and must grow together. I would never say anything to divide us.
The word ‘tribe’ I used was in a historical sense, referring to early human societies worldwide, not the Scheduled Tribes category we know today, which was formed much later in India’s history.
The English dictionary defines ‘tribe’ as a traditional social group with shared culture, beliefs, and language. Still, if anyone felt offended by my words, I truly apologize. My intention was only to promote peace and unity.”
Vijay concluded by saying he is committed to using his voice for positivity and togetherness, not division.
