Naveen Chandra Confident That 28°C Will Be Well Received Across Theatrical, TV, And OTT Platforms
Naveen Chandra has carved a niche for himself with several successful films and web series in both Telugu and Tamil. His latest project as the lead actor is 28°C, an emotional thriller directed by Dr. Anil Vishwanath, best known for Polimera. Produced by Sai Abhishek under the Veeranjaneya Productions banner, the film features Shalini Vadnikatti as the female lead. Set for a grand theatrical release on April fourth, the film has been a long journey for the team. In a recent interview, Naveen Chandra shared insights into his experience working on this unique story.
Reflecting on the film's origins, he revealed that the journey began six years ago when director Anil Vishwanath first mentioned the concept during a casual conversation at a restaurant. Two days later, after hearing the full story, Naveen was immediately drawn to its uniqueness. The narrative revolves around a man who must save his life partner in an environment maintained at 28°C, making for an emotionally intense and thrilling cinematic experience. At the time, Naveen Chandra was still riding the wave of success from Andhala Rakshasi and was being offered primarily love stories. This script, however, stood out as something fresh and different, making him eager to take it on.
The film was shot in two major locations, Vizag and Georgia. Initially, the team considered filming in the United States, but obtaining entry permits for foreign artists proved challenging. Even when they opted for Georgia, they faced multiple visa rejections before finally securing permission to shoot after their struggle gained local media attention.
The emotional core of the film lies in the relationship between the protagonists, Karthik and Anjali, who meet as medical students, fall in love, and get married. They establish their careers as doctors, but Anjali’s rare medical condition requires her to be treated at a constant temperature of 28°C. The director, Anil Vishwanath, who is also a doctor, incorporated real medical insights into the script, making the story even more compelling.
Naveen Chandra acknowledged that every actor needs successful films and a strong market presence to ensure smooth theatrical releases. When 28°C was being made, the thriller genre was not in high demand, and his previous films had not performed well at the box office. As a result, the film struggled to secure business deals, and OTT platforms showed little interest. Some who watched the early versions of the film suggested changes, which created additional hurdles. However, the unwavering determination of director Anil Vishwanath and producer Sai Abhishek ensured that the film reached theaters. Eventually, distributor Vamsi Nandipati watched the movie and recognized its potential, deciding to back its theatrical release. Naveen is confident that audiences will appreciate the film across theaters, television, and streaming platforms, with positive word-of-mouth boosting its reception.
Speaking about the shift in audience preferences post-pandemic, Naveen Chandra noted the increasing popularity of thriller and action films. He observed that society itself has seen a rise in violent incidents, which has translated into a greater demand for crime-based storytelling in cinema. While choosing his projects, he prioritizes strong production values to ensure a balance between his craft, financial stability, and career growth.
Reflecting on his past work, Naveen credited his role in Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava as a major turning point in his career. Looking ahead, he is excited about his upcoming role in Mass Jathara, where he shares the screen with Ravi Teja. He also revealed that due to his commitments to Game Changer, he missed out on playing the main antagonist in Suriya’s upcoming retro film. Apart from Showtime, he has another project titled 11 Elevem under AK Entertainments. Fans can also look forward to the second season of Inspector Rishi, a web series that significantly boosted his popularity.
With 28°C set to hit the big screen, Naveen Chandra is eager for audiences to experience the film’s emotional depth and thrilling narrative, confident that it will leave a lasting impact.
