"It's Not a Film; It's Magic" – Mohanlal at the Grand Trailer Launch of "L2E: Empuraan" in Mumbai
The highly anticipated trailer launch of Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s panIndia spectacle L2E: Empuraan took place today at INOX Megaplex, InOrbit Mall, Malad, Mumbai. Making history, the trailer was unveiled in the IMAX® format, marking the firstever IMAX® trailer launch for a Malayalam film. Additionally, L2E: Empuraan will be the first Malayalam movie to receive an IMAX® release, with select screens worldwide showcasing the film in this premium format.
The grand event was attended by superstar Mohanlal, director Prithviraj Sukumaran, producer Gokulam Gopalan, actors Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier, writer Murali Gopy, Hindi distributor Anil Thadani, and several other key members of the cast and crew.
Addressing the media, Mohanlal expressed his excitement and nervousness ahead of the release. “It’s been a beautiful 47year journey in cinema, and making a film of this scale is no easy task. It was always our dream to create something like this. Thank you, Prithviraj, for making this vision a reality. This is not just a film it’s magic. It’s the result of our sweat and blood. We began this journey with Lucifer, now comes Empuraan, and we have another part in the pipeline. But I’ll let the film speak for itself.”
Taking the stage, director Prithviraj Sukumaran reflected on the massive undertaking of bringing Empuraan to life. “Directing a film of this magnitude is a challenge. When we decided to follow up Lucifer with a second installment in the trilogy conceived by Murali Gopy, I knew it couldn’t be just another Malayalam film—it had to be something bigger. The scale we attempted is uncharted territory for our industry.”
Prithviraj recalled his first narration of the film to Mohanlal and producer Antony Perumbavoor in Dubai. “I was prepared for them to tell me this was impossible to execute. But once I finished the narration, Lalettan simply said, ‘We’re doing this.’ That confidence from him and Antony sir is what made this possible.”
He also acknowledged the role of producer Gokulam Gopalan. “Today, Malayalam cinema can think big only because of passionate producers like him, who have been supporting ambitious films for years. And having a strong distribution partner like Anil Thadani is a gamechanger. Empuraan could mark the beginning of something huge for Malayalam cinema, contributing to the larger vision of integrating into the Indian film industry at scale.”
Producer Gokulam Gopalan expressed his belief in the film’s potential. “I feel truly blessed to back this project. I have immense confidence that Empuraan will not only succeed but also gain global recognition.
Actor Indrajith Sukumaran, who plays a bigger role in this installment, praised Prithviraj’s clarity as a director. “From Lucifer to Empuraan, it’s been an incredible journey. As a director, Prithvi is very clear about what he wants from his actors, making it a joy to work with him.”
Writer Murali Gopy teased what’s in store. “For those who’ve seen Lucifer, this film builds on that foundation and paves the way for the final chapter. I hope it delivers a memorable experience.”
Manju Warrier expressed gratitude for being part of the film. “Every film with Lalettan is a blessing. Most of my mostloved performances have been with him, and I cherish that. I’m thrilled to be part of a project with such grandeur and anticipation.”
Anil Thadani of AA Films, handling the Hindi distribution, called it a fan moment. “This is my first collaboration with Mohanlal sir, and I’m honored. Prithvi, you’ve raised the bar not just for Malayalam cinema but for the entire Indian film industry.”
