Famed lyricist KK (Krishnakanth) recently expressed his satisfaction with his journey in the industry, noting that all the songs he wrote last year became chartbusters. He feels fortunate to craft songs that resonate with music lovers across Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam films. In a recent interview, KK shared insights about his experiences as a lyricist.

“I am truly satisfied with my work as a lyricist. Last year was exceptional for me, as I had the opportunity to write some amazing songs. I am thrilled that my dream of leaving my job to establish myself as a lyricist has come to fruition. The songs I penned last year, including those for dubbed films, have not only become chart-toppers but also gone viral, impressing audiences.”

“Lately, I've been focusing on writing songs for Pan India films. I don’t feel pressured when working on these projects. For films like Salaar and Radhe Shyam, I write the song in Telugu, which is then translated into English and adapted by lyricists in other languages. This translation is the only additional work required for Pan India films.”

“As a lyricist, knowing the entire story of a movie is a significant advantage. I wrote songs for films like Padi Padi Leche Manasu, Sita Ramam (five songs), Salaar, and Radhe Shyam, all of which turned out to be superhits. Writing for films where I have full knowledge of the story provides me immense satisfaction, helps me avoid repetition, and encourages me to discover fresh words for new songs.”

“Among the songs I penned last year, Adiga from Hi Nanna gave me immense fulfillment. This song, along with the film, reached a broad audience through various music concerts. Anuvanuvu from Om Bheem Bhush went viral, while Ambaraala Veedhilo from the dubbed movie ARM received an overwhelming response. The song Naa Favourite Naa Pellame from Janaka Aithe Ganaka was also a hit. I’m pleased that 90 percent of the songs I've written have been successful. The songs for Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan and Siva Karthikeyan’s Amaran have also garnered significant appreciation.”

“When creating original songs, we enjoy more freedom. In contrast, with dubbed songs, we must carefully choose Telugu words that align with the original language. Writing dubbed songs can be challenging if approached like traditional songwriting. This year, I’m also venturing into scriptwriting. I am working on dialogues for the film Adheera under Prashanth Varma’s guidance. I haven’t had the chance to focus on dialogues recently due to my busy schedule with songwriting, but I'm now making time for both song and scriptwriting. I’ve considered directing, but for now, my primary focus remains on writing.”

“We've begun work on two songs for Prabhas and Hanu Raghavapudi’s film. Hanu’s previous works have centered around love stories, but this movie is packed with action and drama, offering a Hollywood-like experience. It’s a period film set in the 1940s with a patriotic narrative.”

“In today’s music landscape, every music director seeks a catchy hook line for their songs, creating pressure on lyricists to conform to this trend. However, I believe a hook line isn't suitable for every song. The technicians I collaborate with have been very supportive in this regard.”

“My fellow lyricists are incredibly friendly and encouraging. When I produce a good song, Chandrabose garu often calls to congratulate me. In the past, movie stories were more relatable to the general audience, making the songs timeless. Unfortunately, such stories are becoming rare, but I strive to maintain an emotional connection in my songs whenever possible.”

“I am currently working on songs for the Prabhas-Hanu film, The Raja Saab, Ram Pothineni’s RAPO22, Vijay Deverakonda's VD 12, among other projects. Discussions are also underway for several other exciting ventures.”
