Synopsis: A martial arts instructor from the police force gets imprisoned after killing a man by accident. But when a vicious killer named Fung goes around Hong Kong killing top martial arts exponents and leaving a secret weapon called the Moonshadow as his calling card, the instructor offers to help the police in return for his freedom.
A stunning comeback for Donnie Yen, this well-plotted, character-driven embodiment of contemporary martial arts movie is thrilling, gripping and poignant.
Director Teddy Chen underpins the spectacular martial arts set pieces – including an extraordinary battle on a dinosaur skeleton – with hefty doses of psychological grit. When Hahou unlocks Fung’s psychopathic pattern, this not only provides the context for a series of distinctive face-off sequences, it also spurs him to go against the martial code in order to uphold it and protect the woman he loves (Michelle Bai). In addition to its charismatic lead performances (Yen is currently filming Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II), Kung Fu Killer is a veritable gallery of Hong Kong action stars and choreographers. Featuring a mind-boggling finale on a busy Hong Kong overpass.
