Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte are sharing the screen in an unapologetic, matriarchal crime drama, and the first look at Netflix’s Akka makes one thing clear: neither is backing down without a fight.
Forget the usual testosterone-fueled mob sagas. Directed by Dharamaraj Shetty and produced by YRF Entertainment, Akka flips the traditional underworld script by dropping viewers straight into Pernuru a fictional, gritty kingdom where women run the empires, call the shots, and protect their turf at all costs. The woman sitting at the very top carries the undisputed title of "Akka."
On paper, Pernuru functions smoothly. Underneath, it’s a powder keg of old blood feuds and hidden grudges waiting for a spark. That spark arrives in the form of an outsider, setting off a chain reaction that puts two fierce powerhouses on a direct collision course: Bhavani (Keerthy Suresh), driven to defend her family’s legacy, and Rudra (Radhika Apte), an unapologetic force refusing to be boxed in by anyone else’s rules.
Their rivalry isn't just about controlling territory it's about survival, ambition, and who gets to write the kingdom's history.
The series rounds out its heavy-hitting cast with Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Monica Panwar. Akka marks the latest collaboration between Netflix India and YRF, aiming to deliver a high-stakes, character-driven thriller centered on complex women who don't ask for permission to rule.
The battle for Pernuru’s throne kicks off when Akka arrives on Netflix on October 30, 2026.
