“Saampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani” is a Complete Theatrical Entertainer: Director Sudheer Sriram
After delivering classic entertainers like Missamma, Adirindayya Chandram, and Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila, the beloved on-screen pair Shivaji and Laya are reuniting for the upcoming film Saampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani. Backed by noted producers Bunny Vasu and Vamsi Nandipati in association with ETV Win, the film follows the success of Little Hearts and Raju Weds Rambayi and has already generated strong buzz with its recently released trailer.
Touted as a crime-comedy family thriller, the film is produced under the Sri Shivaji Productions banner by Shivaji himself and directed by Sudheer Sriram. The movie is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on the 6th of this month. Speaking to the media, director Sudheer Sriram shared several insights about the film and his journey.
Hailing from Kadapa, Sudheer revealed that his father worked as a postmaster and that his love for cinema began in childhood. Inspired by films and driven by a dream to gain recognition in the industry, he completed his engineering after watching Happy Days and entered the film industry in 2015. He worked in the direction department on multiple projects, including Evaru, and credits director Venkat Ramji as his mentor and guiding force who played a crucial role in shaping his career.
Talking about casting Shivaji, Sudheer said that the actor reminded him of his father when he watched his 90s films. When he narrated the story of Saampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani, Shivaji instantly agreed to not only act but also produce the film, which greatly encouraged him. Shivaji later suggested pitching the story to the ETV team, and with the support of Nithin, Sai Krishna, and Bapineedu, the project quickly took shape.
Describing the film’s genre, Sudheer explained that it is a crime comedy with a dark humor tone, similar in spirit to the storytelling style seen in Nelson Dilipkumar’s films. Blending humor, suspense, and emotion, the film is designed to be a wholesome theatrical experience that families can enjoy together. He added that audiences will feel they have watched a complete entertainer by the end.
Initially, the film was considered for an OTT release. However, after discussions and a suggestion from Anil Ravipudi, the team decided to opt for a theatrical release instead. Sudheer admitted he was emotionally invested in seeing his debut film on the big screen and is now thrilled that audiences will experience it in theatres.
He emphasized that every character in the film is uniquely designed and perfectly cast. Interestingly, the narrative takes an unexpected turn after the first twenty minutes, keeping viewers engaged throughout. Clarifying comparisons, Sudheer stated that Shivaji’s role in this film is entirely different from his 90s characters, portraying him in a highly energetic and fresh avatar. He also mentioned that the film’s title was suggested by Shivaji, whose involvement added significant value to the project.
On Shivaji’s contribution, the director said the actor never interfered with the script but brought his own style to the dialogues and actively participated in song development, including the “Paya” song based on his suggestion. The story, he noted, remained exactly as originally narrated, without any alterations.
Speaking about the theatrical experience, Sudheer shared that those who previewed the film, including Anil Ravipudi, thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious first half and found the suspense-filled second half gripping. While the film will work on any platform, he believes it will be especially enjoyable in theatres.
Looking ahead, Sudheer expressed his desire to explore multiple genres as a filmmaker, revealing that his upcoming stories span fantasy, science fiction, commercial entertainment, and mythology. He also clarified that the film is not just comedy but a well-structured story with strong logic, where every scene and character serves a purpose.
Concluding, he confidently stated that Saampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani offers a perfect blend of humor, crime, and thrill delivering a laughter-filled first half and a gripping second half, making it a complete theatrical entertainer for audiences.
