“Santhana Prapthirasthu will connect with all kinds of audiences with its perfect mix of fun, emotion, and a meaningful message,” says Hero Vikranth
Young actor Vikranth is gearing up for the release of his new film Santhana Prapthirasthu, co-starring Chandini Chowdary. Produced by Madhura Sreedhar Reddy and Nirvi Hariprasad Reddy under Madhura Entertainment and Nirvi Arts, the film is directed by Sanjeev Reddy. It releases in theatres on the 14th of this month. In a candid interview, Vikranth shared his journey and what makes the film special.
Vikranth, who hails from Vijayawada, grew up loving movies. After studying and working in software, he moved to the U.S., where his passion for cinema grew even stronger. During COVID, he realized that waiting for the “right time” was pointless and decided to return to India to pursue acting seriously. His first project Spark didn’t go as expected, so he took a break and trained in theatre to improve his craft.
He later met Sridhar Garu, who sent him the script for Santhana Prapthirasthu.
The story is about a man dealing with low sperm count,” he explained. “At first, I wasn’t sure if Telugu audiences would accept such a topic. But after reading the script, I felt it was handled very decently, without any vulgarity. It’s a clean family entertainer that anyone can watch comfortably.
Vikranth believes that after COVID, audiences have become more open-minded and welcoming of fresh ideas.
As a new actor, I can’t depend on routine commercial films, he said. I want to take up subjects that are different yet relatable. Our film deals with infertility in a sensitive and entertaining way. About 75% is filled with fun, and the climax carries an emotional message.
He shared that director Sanjeev Reddy has been working on this script since 2017 and didn’t change even a single scene. Vikranth plays Chaitanya, a software engineer a character many IT employees will relate to. For the role, he put on six kilos to look like a typical tech professional.
Infertility is increasing among modern couples. Surveys say 3 out of 10 couples face these issues. We haven’t made fun of anyone suffering from it. Instead, we’ve tried to give them hope, he said.
Vikranth praised his co-star Chandini Chowdary, calling her one of the major highlights of the film. He also spoke highly of Vennela Kishore, Tharun Bhascker, and Murali Dhar Goud, who play important roles. The story also touches on a “100-day pregnancy challenge,” reflecting the rising stress, lifestyle changes, and delays couples face today.
The film’s post-production took extra time, but Vikranth is thrilled with the output.
Ajay Arasada gave a wonderful background score. ‘Telusa Nee Kosame’ is already a hit. Our songs are getting great response, and even OTT platforms have shown a lot of confidence in our movie, he said.
The censor board awarded the film a U/A certificate, praising the team for handling a sensitive topic tastefully. Early premieres have also received encouraging feedback.
Families said they hadn’t watched such a wholesome entertainer in a long time. That made me very happy,” he added.
Vikranth revealed that he will next work with Sreedhar Garu and Sanjeev Reddy on a rural drama titled Sarpanch, followed by a socio-fantasy film Mrityunjaya Markandeya which he is currently developing.
