 Legendary Cinematographer & Director M.V. Raghu Celebrates 50 Glorious Years in Cinema Amidst Industry Stalwarts

Legendary cinematographer and director M.V. Raghu, fondly known as Kallu Raghu, marked a monumental milestone50 years in the Indian film industry. To celebrate his golden jubilee, a grand event was held at Prasad Labs, Hyderabad, with several renowned film personalities in attendance to honor his invaluable contribution to Indian cinema.

Having begun his career in 1974, M.V. Raghu earned immense recognition for his remarkable work as a cinematographer on classic films like Swathi Muthyam, Siri Vennela, Sitara, and Anveshana. His directorial debut Kallu fetched him the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director and four Nandi Awards, cementing his place among the greats.

Celebrities Pay Glowing Tributes

Actor Tanikella Bharani shared,

“It’s a joy to celebrate M.V. Raghu’s 50-year journey in the industry. His creativity as a cinematographer is unmatched. In Sitara, there’s a scene where heroine Bhanupriya’s eyes are reflected in a shattered mirrorone of the most artistic visuals I’ve ever seen. I loved it so much that I installed similar mirrors in my home. Raghu continues to work with the same passion even today, and I’m here purely out of admiration for him.”

Actor Suman said,

“I owe my selection as the lead in Sitara to Raghu sir. That film had three greatsVamsy, Ilaiyaraaja, and M.V. Raghu. His contribution to cinema is incredible. I also worked with him on America Alludu, where he even taught me aspects of cinematography. Despite his busy schedule, he always inspires us with his dedication. We came here today purely to congratulate him.”

Actor Murali Mohan remarked,

 “Completing 50 years as a technician is truly rare. Raghu worked with iconic filmmakers like Vijaya Bapineedu and K. Viswanath, and with many top stars. What’s remarkable is that his humility remains unchanged. He’s now sharing his vast knowledge with the younger generation through his film institute, which deserves appreciation. My heartfelt congratulations to him.”

Cinematographer Chota K. Naidu said,

“My mentors in cinematography are V.S.R. Swamy, Gopal Reddy, and M.V. Raghu. The visuals he created for Sitara are unforgettable. When I watched Anveshana, people came out of the theatre talking about the cameraworkthat moment made me dream of becoming a cinematographer. Those who learn from Raghu sir are truly blessed.”

Actor Uttej expressed,

“Raghu sir is a master technician. With films like Siri Vennela and Aalapana, he showed us the beauty of natural light long before advanced technology arrived. A cinematographer’s vision defines how we see actors on screen, and Raghu sir has excelled in that art. Even now, he continues to train young minds. My best wishes to him on this golden jubilee celebration.”

Actor Shivaji Raja shared,

“M.V. Raghu sir is my guru. It was through his film Kallu that I gained recognition as an actor, which paved the way for hundreds of roles later. I wish he continues to inspire and train many more talents in the years to come.”

 M.V. Raghu Reflects on His Journey

Speaking at the event, M.V. Raghu said,

 “Throughout my 50-year journey, I’ve had the fortune of working with some of the greatest actors and technicians in Indian cinema. I’ve worked with stalwarts like cinematographers P.L. Roy (Lava Kusha) and Marcus Bartley (Mayabazar), and learned immensely from my gurus V.S.R. Swamy and Gopal Reddy. I had the honor of working with legends like N.T. Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

I’ve always been a perfectionistif something doesn’t turn out right, I never settle. Working with K. Viswanath on Swathi Muthyam and Siri Vennela remains a highlight of my career. Swathi Muthyam is still the only Indian film that went to the Oscars where I served as cinematographer. A couple of years ago, I was also part of the Oscar selection committee.

 I’m grateful to everyone who supported my journey. This celebration was made possible thanks to Uday Kiran and our institute team, who continue to train young talents in cinematography. I only wish my dear friend and collaborator Vamsy could have been herehis role in my success is immense.”

The event was graced by veteran actress Annapurna, cinematographers S. Gopal Reddy, P.G. Vinda, director Veerashankar, and several other film industry members, who joined in celebrating the golden legacy of M.V. Raghu a true visionary of Indian cinema.
