Ram Gopal Varma Engages with Engineering Students Ahead of ‘Saaree’ Release on March 21
Ace filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma interacted with engineering students about his upcoming psychological thriller ‘Saaree’, set for a March 21 release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. Directed by Giri Krishnakamal and produced by Ravi Shankar Verma under RGV-ARV Productions LLP, the film stars Satya Yadu and Aradhya Devi in lead roles.
The event took place at Mallareddy Engineering and Management Sciences College (Medchal), drawing an audience of around 2,000 students, faculty, and board members including Vemula Krishna Reddy, Vemula Raghavendra Reddy (Bunty), and Vemula Bharath Simha Reddy (Bharath). Also in attendance were producer Ravi Shankar Verma and RGV’s sister Vijaya.
RGV on ‘Saaree’ and Social Media Dangers
Welcoming the students, Ram Gopal Varma said,
Good evening to all future Indian producers! And Happy Women’s Day! Like many of you, I was also an engineering student. ‘Saaree’ is inspired by real-life events and explores how blind trust in strangers online can lead to terrifying consequences. Social media plays a key role in these incidents, and this film delves deep into such psychological aspects.
RGV’s Witty Responses to Student Questions
The interaction took a humorous turn when students posed quirky questions to RGV:
- Student: “RGV, do you have the courage to hug someone like me?”
- RGV: “I won’t. Do I look like someone who hugs men?!”
- Student: “Would you ever direct Pawan Kalyan?”
- RGV: “Only after I die.”
- Student: “Can we expect a movie with Sandeep Ranga?”
- RGV: “Should I direct him, or should he direct me? We are both directors—it won’t work.
Heroine Aradhya Devi, hailing from Kerala, charmed the audience:
“Happy Women’s Day! Do you like my saree? Though I don’t speak Telugu fluently, I love Hyderabad and will try my best. RGV introduced me through ‘Saaree’, and I hope to win your love and support.”
Hero Satya Yadu, a Delhi-based stage artist, shared his excitement:
“When RGV announced ‘Saaree’, I auditioned and got selected. Now, I stand before you as a hero! (To the girls) Do I look like a hero or a psycho?” (Students cheered ‘Hero! Hero!’)
“In the film, I play a psycho, but in real life, I’m a good guy. ‘Saaree’ is an intense thriller, and I hope you all watch it.
Producer Ravi Shankar Verma recalled how the project began:
RGV narrated the ‘Saaree’ story to me, and I was drawn to it. Aradhya’s look in a saree on Instagram caught our attention, and that’s how casting started. This is my debut production, and I believe it will bring me recognition.
A student asked Vijaya, RGV’s sister, if she ever hit him. She humorously replied,
As a child, Ramu always had different thoughts. Once, I hit him for doing something wrong. But he never hit back—even after learning karate! He doesn’t believe in violence; he takes everything lightly.
With Lucky Lakshmi hosting the session, the event was packed with energy, laughter, and enthusiastic cheers. The engaging discussions and playful banter made it a memorable evening for students, leaving them eager for the March 21 release of ‘Saaree’.
