Actress Pragya Jaiswal on Daaku Maharaaj, Balakrishna, and the Best Birthday Gift Ever!

"Daaku Maharaaj Releasing on My Birthday Is the Biggest Coincidence Ever": Pragya Jaiswal

Q: How do you feel about working with Nandamuri Balakrishna again in Daaku Maharaaj?

Pragya Jaiswal: Definitely, Balakrishna Sir is a lucky charm. I’m thrilled to collaborate with him once again. Daaku Maharaaj is set in a completely unique world, brilliantly crafted by Bobby Sir. My character, Kaveri, is distinctive and exciting. There’s a lot of positivity surrounding this project, and I’m confident the audience will appreciate my performance just as they’ve done in the past.

Q: What’s your opinion of director Bobby Kolli?

Pragya Jaiswal: Bobby Sir was the first director I met in the Telugu film industry, even before I debuted with Kanche. We’ve stayed in touch over the years but never had the chance to work together until now. When he approached me for this film, I was immediately on board after seeing the teaser. His calm demeanor on set, even during tough situations, makes the entire process smooth. Despite the challenging conditions in Rajasthan heat, dust, and long hours—he and his team ensured a stress-free environment. Working with him has been an absolute blessing.

Q: Do you notice any differences in Nandamuri Balakrishna on-screen and off-screen?

Pragya Jaiswal: Surprisingly, there aren’t many differences. Off-screen, Balayya Sir is the same positive, energetic, and childlike person. He’s always lively, cracking jokes, or sharing stories about his father’s iconic movies. On-screen, however, he transforms completely—especially in intense roles like the Agghora character in Akhanda. His unmatched energy and dedication to his craft are truly inspiring.

Q: How was your experience working with Sithara Entertainments?

Pragya Jaiswal: Sithara Entertainments is one of the most prestigious banners in Telugu cinema. I feel fortunate to have worked with them. Naga Vamsi Garu’s silent yet impactful support has made this journey so smooth. Their passion for filmmaking is evident, and I hope to collaborate with them on more projects in the future.

Q: In the trailer, there’s a shot of you holding a knife ferociously. Can you elaborate on that?

Pragya Jaiswal: It’s a bit of a surprise, so I’d prefer not to reveal too much. Let’s wait and watch it’s going to be exciting!

Q: Were there any physical challenges during the shoot for Daaku Maharaaj?

Pragya Jaiswal: Absolutely. Shooting in Rajasthan’s extreme heat and dusty conditions was quite challenging. I even fell sick on the second or third day, but the team’s passion and support kept me going. Bobby Sir and his crew made sure I could focus on my performance despite the tough circumstances. Vijay Kannan Sir, our DOP, brought such stunning visuals to life that it motivated me to give my best every single day.

Q: Daaku Maharaaj is releasing on your birthday. How does that feel?

Pragya Jaiswal: It feels like a blessing and the biggest coincidence ever! Having a release on my birthday and during the festive Sankranti season feels like the universe aligning things for me. It’s the best celebration I could ask for.

Q: What’s your opinion on Sankranti releases?

Pragya Jaiswal: Sankranti is a special time for the film industry, with many big releases. I believe every good film finds its audience, and I wish all the movies releasing alongside ours great success.

Q: How was it working with music director Thaman?

Pragya Jaiswal: Thaman is one of the finest music directors in the industry, and his combination with Balakrishna Sir is phenomenal. The songs and background score he’s created for Daaku Maharaaj are outstanding. My personal favorite is “Rage of Daaku.” Thaman’s ability to bring fresh and unique sounds makes every project he works on special.

Q: What have you learned professionally and personally from Nandamuri Balakrishna?

Pragya Jaiswal: Discipline is the greatest lesson I’ve learned from Balakrishna Sir. He starts his day at 3:30 AM with prayers and workouts and is always punctual on set. Despite his decades of superstardom, he remains grounded, dedicated, and passionate. His childlike enthusiasm and respect for every director’s vision are incredibly inspiring. Working with him has been an enriching experience, both professionally and personally.
