Audiences Enjoy Watching Patang in Theatres: Director Praneeth Pattipati
Director Praneeth Pattipati is delighted with the strong and growing response to his debut film Patang. Expressing his happiness, he said the appreciation coming from audiences has made all the hard work worthwhile. According to him, viewers are genuinely enjoying the film, and the positive feedback has been very encouraging.
Directed by Praneeth Pattipati, Patang is produced under the banners of Cinematic Elements, Rishan Cinemas, and Monsoon Tales, and presented by senior producer D. Suresh Babu. The film is produced by Vijay Shekhar Anne, Sampath Maka, Suresh Kothinti, and Nani Bandreddy. Since its release, the film has been receiving good word-of-mouth and is being appreciated as a youthful sports-based entertainer.
Talking about audience reactions, Praneeth said that both collections and appreciation are steadily increasing. Many viewers have told him they felt satisfied after watching a good film. He added that the climax, in particular, gives the thrill of watching a live match inside a stadium.
Sharing his journey, Praneeth said he was born and brought up in Hyderabad and studied filmmaking at Ramanaidu Film School. Patang marks his first film as a director.
Explaining the idea behind the film, he said the concept came to him on a Sankranti day. While many sports films are inspired by foreign games, he wanted to focus on a native sport like kite flying. He admitted that only after starting the project did he realise how challenging it would be, especially due to the heavy use of visual effects.
The director revealed that the film’s delay was mainly due to the extensive CG work, especially in the climax. Since there was no reference point, making the kites look realistic on screen took nearly two years. He said the team did not compromise on quality at any stage.
Praneeth credited the producers for standing by the project throughout. He said their belief and financial support ensured the film maintained a rich and colourful look. He also mentioned that several industry personalities who watched the film, including SKN, Sundeep Kishan, Bellamkonda Suresh, and Dil Raju, praised the movie.
Speaking about the release challenges, he said getting theatres during the festive season was difficult. While the film has strong word-of-mouth, limited screens and show timings have affected reach. However, wherever the film is playing, theatres are running with good occupancy.
On Gautham Vasudev Menon’s role, Praneeth said they felt he perfectly suited the character. After listening to the story, Gautham Menon agreed to be part of the film and enjoyed the dialogues written for him.
Reflecting on his experience, Praneeth said the biggest lesson he learned was the importance of marketing along with filmmaking. He also credited Nani Bandreddy for initiating the project and supporting it from the beginning.
Explaining his choice of newcomers, he said fresh faces suited the story better, and he personally handled the story and dialogues. Patang is scheduled for a wide overseas release on January 1, and he is confident it will connect with audiences there as well.
Talking about future plans, Praneeth said he enjoys making entertaining commercial films and promised that his next film will have much more comedy. He also said he feels honoured when people compare his style to director Sekhar Kammula.
Addressing comments about the heroine’s confused nature in the film, he clarified that the character reflects real-life personalities and is partly inspired by his own nature.
