“Writing is My Life”: Lyricist Sreemani on Passion, Growth, and His Creative Journey
Sreemani, who began his career as a lyricist with 100% Love, has today established himself as one of the most in-demand writers in Telugu cinema. Known for penning lyrics for some of the biggest films and star-studded projects, he has steadily carved his own path in the industry. As he celebrates his birthday on September 15 (Monday), Sreemani opened up about his creative journey, challenges, and aspirations in an exclusive media interaction.
Asked if there was anything special about this birthday, he humbly replied:
There is nothing extraordinary. But every year, I treat my birthday as the beginning of a new chapter in my literary journey. I wish to take another step forward, attempt something new, and begin fresh works on this day with renewed energy.”
Sreemani expressed satisfaction about his recent songs:
“This year, I had the chance to write for scenes filled with deep emotions and literary weight. Songs like Bujjithalli and Hailessa in Tandel, Nijama Kala in Lucky Bhaskar, and numbers from Aay brought me wonderful recognition. I feel proud to have contributed to such meaningful songs and remain grateful to the directors, music composers, and producers who trusted me.”
Talking about evolving trends in music and writing, he shared:
“Every song is a challenge. In the last five years, both sound design and lyrical aesthetics have changed drastically. Today’s audience expects freshness in every word and sound. My effort is to write songs that feel current today and still sound fresh even after ten years. Reinventing myself constantly is part of that process.”
Sreemani, who is often known for his love tracks, said:
“Love is universal. Each song carries a unique shade of emotion. My focus is to make sure the emotion reaches everyone in simple yet impactful words, without losing meaning in sound.”
When asked if he had a personal favorite among his songs, he smiled:
“Every song I write is my favorite because I write it with love. A writer should always feel content but also eager to create more. That hunger is what drives me.”
Reflecting on changing listening patterns, he said:
“Earlier, songs would take time to reach audiences. Now, with social media, listeners expect to connect instantly. It’s like walking a tightropesongs are expected to be instant chartbusters. But while writing, I always think about how it should resonate even ten years later.”
He revealed how certain songs come to life:
After Aradugula Bullet, I started receiving more hero introduction songs. But I also love writing love tracks. For example, for Idhe Kada… in Maharshi, I listened to the full story before writing. Sometimes, I write based only on the situation.”
For Sreemani, the proudest moments are when his work is recognized by those he admires:
“I can’t pick one song as the proudest. True satisfaction comes when people I respect appreciate my work. Director Sukumar, who introduced me, praised Vachindamma from Geetha Govindam and encouraged me. Similarly, when Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry garu appreciated my song in Maharshi, it was unforgettable. That kind of appreciation gives me immense joy.”
When asked if he had any plans to direct films, he clarified:
“I don’t see myself directing. My dream is to evolve as a complete writer. I used to discuss stories with friends, and now I want to channel that into writing dialogues. Writing is my life, and my wish is to enhance the value of literature in cinema.”

Currently, Sreemani is busy with multiple exciting projects. He is penning lyrics for Aakasaniki Oka Thaara starring Dulquer Salmaan, Sambaraala Yetigattu featuring Sai Durga Tej, India House, and several other upcoming flms.
