Hyderabad: A fresh controversy has erupted in Tollywood after the producers of the upcoming film “Oka Parvathi Iddaru Devadasulu” alleged large-scale betrayal and fraud in connection with the movie’s rights.
Producers K. Murali (Sharath Varma) and B. Anand Babu addressed the media, claiming they had invested ₹2 crore into the production. According to them, all expenses had been borne entirely by their team. “Since repayment of dues could not be made, on September 12, 2024, all rights including film, copyright, and intellectual property were officially transferred to us,” they said.
However, they accused Ramakrishna Thota of acting in bad faith. “Instead of extending cooperation, he falsely declared ownership of the project. Without our permission, he went ahead and publicized the title and posters in newspapers. This amounts to cheating, breach of trust, and blatant violation of our rights,” the producers alleged, adding that the episode had caused them heavy financial and reputational damage.
The producers confirmed that they are moving legally, preparing to file cases under IPC Sections 406 and 420 (criminal breach of trust and cheating), along with provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957.
“We will not stop until justice is delivered. If genuine investors in cinema are denied their rights, the very foundation of the industry is at risk,” they declared, urging the Producers’ Council, government, and police to intervene and safeguard their interests.
Calling it a “well-planned conspiracy against rightful producers,” they appealed to the media to highlight their struggle. “This is not just our fight it is about protecting every producer’s right in cinema,” the duo concluded.
