Original and Unstoppable: ZEE5’s Viraatapalem Shines Bright

“We Set the Benchmark, Others Followed – We Are 100% Original”: ZEE5 Telugu’s Anuradha on Viraatapalem’s Success and Plagiarism Row

ZEE Network has long been known for setting trends in Indian entertainment, and as ZEE Telugu celebrated 20 years, it reinforced its commitment to original storytelling. The platform’s latest web series, Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting, premiered on June 26 and has quickly become a major hit with viewers.

Directed by Poluru Krishna, the gripping thriller stars Abhignya Vuthaluru and boasts a strong supporting cast including Charan Lakkaraju, Lavanya Sahukara, and Krishna Teja. Produced by KV Sriram under South Indian Screens, the series has a seven-episode run packed with suspense and drama. Key contributions came from writer Thejaswi Pera, screenplay writer Vikram Kumar Kandimalla, cinematographer Mahesh K Swaroop, editor Farooq Hundekar, and composer Rohit Kumar.

To celebrate the show’s success, the makers held a press meet attended by ZEE5 Telugu Business Head Anuradha, ZEE5 Originals Vice President Sai Tej Deshraj, ZEE Telugu Senior VP Jayanth, marketing head Lloyd C Xavier, and members of the cast and crew. The gathering also addressed the recent copyright controversy that had sparked discussions online.

Speaking at the event, Anuradha said, “Usually, I don’t make public statements, but the circumstances demand it. ZEE Telugu has always championed original content, and our record proves it. Three of our Telugu shows have even been remade in Hindi. From shows like Gaalivaana and ATM to Oka Chinna Family Story, we’ve collaborated with top talent and created groundbreaking content.”

On the plagiarism allegations, she clarified, “A concept itself cannot be copyrighted it’s the execution that counts. Although there have been accusations, we followed the court’s order and offered a screening to the other party. After watching the series, they chose not to comment and postponed the hearing to July 9. We trust the court process and believe the truth will come out. ZEE5 is committed to 100% originality.”

Sai Tej Deshraj added, “At ZEE5, we push creative boundaries with every series. We plan to introduce a new web series each month and give opportunities to fresh talent in the industry.”

Jayanth expressed his joy over the show’s reception: “Messages haven’t stopped pouring in since the premiere. Thanks to the writers and entire team for delivering a thrilling series.”

Lloyd C Xavier said, “This success is a result of teamwork and originality, which is what ZEE5 stands for.”

Producer KV Sriram shared, “After Recce, Viraatapalem has been another proud moment for us. We paid close attention to recreating the 1980s setting, and everyone worked hard to make it authentic.”

Writer Divya Tejaswini stated, “Viraatapalem’s response has been overwhelming. Allegations were made without understanding our work similar story settings don’t mean copying. Our series is unique.”

DOP Mahesh noted, “This is my third successful project with ZEE5, and I’m grateful for the support.”

Writer Vikram Kumar highlighted, “We’ve developed this story over four years, with great support from Anuradha ma’am and the team. We’re confident that the facts will clear all doubts.”

Actors Surya Teja, Krishna Teja, and Satish also shared their happiness about being part of a project that resonated with audiences. Satish, who returned to acting with Viraatapalem, said, “This show has been a perfect comeback, and I’m thankful for the recognition.”

With Viraatapalem’s success and ZEE5’s stand on originality, the platform has once again proven itself as a leader in Telugu digital entertainment.
