‘Shashtipoorthi’ is a Celebration of Emotions and Relationships: Rupeysh

Rupeysh: "Legends like Rajendra Prasad, Archana, Ilaiyaraaja, and Thota Tharani worked on ‘Shashtipoorthi’ because they loved the story"

Bringing a story with strong family emotions, meaningful values, and heartfelt storytelling to the screen is no easy feat in today’s film industry. But actor and producer Rupeysh took up this challenge with Shashtipoorthi. He not only backed the film as a producer but also played the lead role. Directed by Pavan Prabha, the film features legendary actor Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Archana, and Aakanksha Singh in key roles. Produced under the banner of MAA AAIE Productions, the film is set to release on May 30.

Speaking to the media as part of the film’s promotions on May 27, Rupeysh shared his journey with Shashtipoorthi and what makes the film special.

Rupeysh said he was deeply moved by the story when he first heard it. In a time when most films focus on violence, Shashtipoorthi stood out to him for its emotional depth and strong values. While producing the film gave him a sense of achievement, he found even more joy in acting in it.

He clarified that the story is fictional, but the characters are so relatable that viewers will feel a personal connection. He believes the film captures genuine love and family bonding elements that are rarely seen in current cinema.

Director Pavan Prabha wrote the role of the father with Rajendra Prasad specifically in mind. Since the character of the son is played by a newcomer, audiences won’t have any pre-set expectations. That’s why a fresh face was chosen, and eventually, Rupeysh himself stepped into the role.

One of the film’s biggest strengths, according to Rupeysh, is the music by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja. He said Ilaiyaraaja sir went out of his way to support the film and even gave multiple musical options for each song. A special mention went to Chaitanya Prasad, who helped bring everyone together. Rupeysh also mentioned that there were no issues or creative differences during the music sessions. In fact, when MM Keeravani requested a song, Ilaiyaraaja composed it right away.

Realizing the power of the story, Rupeysh decided to bring in the best technicians for the film. Though the budget exceeded their original plans, he feels every rupee spent is visible on screen. Interestingly, none of the senior technicians demanded high fees they all came on board because they believed in the project.

The team also conducted several workshops before filming. Rupeysh said he naturally connects with emotional scenes and felt comfortable performing them, though he added that it’s not out of overconfidence but pure passion.

He was especially grateful that renowned artists like Ilaiyaraaja and Thota Tharani joined the project after hearing the story. Their contribution, he said, truly enhanced the film’s quality. Naming the banner "MAA AAIE Productions" was a personal decision, as it means “My Mother’s Production,” dedicated to his late mother.

Working closely with legends like Rajendra Prasad, Archana, and Ilaiyaraaja taught Rupeysh the importance of giving one’s hundred percent. He said their dedication inspired him to give his best as well.

Shashtipoorthi also features a heartfelt and refreshing love story. Rupeysh praised Aakanksha Singh’s performance and said the romantic track is simple yet powerful. He emphasized that the team avoided adding unnecessary commercial elements and focused on what the story truly needed. Ilaiyaraaja composed songs that suit the film's soul, and a special song sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja is expected to attract attention.

On the business front, the film has already done well with non-theatrical rights. The makers are planning a wide release across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by an overseas release depending on the local response. Rupeysh is hopeful that positive word-of-mouth will take Shashtipoorthi far.
