A team of passionate newcomers is stepping into the spotlight with Nilave an ambitious musical romantic drama that promises to stir hearts and set a new standard for independent Telugu cinema. Helmed by Sowmith Rao and Sai Vennam, Nilave stars Sowmith Rao alongside Shreyansi Sen in the lead roles. The film is produced by Sai Vennam and Giridhar Rao Poladi under POV Arts Production, in collaboration with Taher Cine Tecq.
The recently released teaser has drawn an overwhelmingly positive response, hinting at a soulful cinematic experience filled with music, love, and visual elegance. At a recent press meet, the Nilave team shared heartfelt insights into their creative journey and what makes this film special.
Speaking at the event, co-director Sai Vennam described Nilave as a film with the heart and scale of a major production. “It’s been a long journey filled with passion and belief. Though we come from humble beginnings, we had a powerful idea and we executed it with all our heart,” he said. “Nilave is a love story about a lonely soul discovering magical love. We built this narrative through music, and we believe it stands tall among the big films you see today. Honest films have a way of resonating with people, and Nilave is exactly that honest and big at heart.”
Lead actor and co-director Sowmith Rao echoed the sentiment, calling Nilave the biggest musical romantic drama to emerge from an indie team. “We didn’t start this journey to make noise we started with the hope of creating something genuine. We may not have star power or a massive budget, but we have something far more valuable authenticity,” he shared. “We want the audience to feel that truth in every frame. We don’t aim to rule Telugu cinema we just want to contribute meaningfully to its growth. And I assure you, Nilave will surprise you.”
Music director Kalyan Nayak revealed how deeply personal Nilave has been for him. “When I was offered this film, I had nothing but dreams to show. But Sowmith and Sai gave me a space to turn those dreams into sound. This isn’t a film that shouts for attention it invites you in. The music is raw, real, and rooted in emotion. All we ask is for people to give us a chance you won’t regret it.”
Cinematographer Dileep K Kumar shared how he was drawn into the project by the sheer conviction of the directors. “When I first heard the story, I was struck by their passion. That madness for cinema is what convinced me to join Nilave. I gave it my all, and I hope the audience sees that on screen.”
Lyricist M.V.S Bharadwaj spoke of his long creative journey with Sowmith Rao. “From shooting short films on handheld cameras to dreaming of this day it’s been surreal. We might not have the trappings of a typical commercial film, but we have something more meaningful vision, love, and integrity. Audiences will feel that honesty.”
First-time lyricist Koti added, “I was nervous stepping onto this stage, but working with Sowmith and Sai has been incredibly motivating. Their energy and originality are infectious.”
Nilave features a strong supporting cast, including Harsha Chemudu, Supriya Aysola, Rupesh Marrapu, Jeevan Kumar, Gururaj, Siddarth Gollapudi, Anala Susmitha, and others.
