Ajay Devgn and Jackie Chan Talk Legacy, Action, and a Bollywood Dream Collaboration Ahead of Karate Kid: Legends

As excitement builds for the release of Karate Kid: Legends on May 30, global icon Jackie Chan and Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn sat down for a special conversation, sharing insights into the enduring legacy of the franchise, their shared passion for action, and the exciting prospect of working together in the future.

The film sees Jackie Chan return as the wise and disciplined Mr. Han, this time mentoring his nephew Li Fong, played by Ben Wang. Adding a special touch for Indian audiences, the Hindi dubbed version features Ajay Devgn and his son Yug lending their voices marking the father-son duo's first professional collaboration and Yug’s debut as a voice actor.

In the candid chat, Ajay reflected on his own journey, crediting his father, veteran stunt director Veeru Devgan, as his real-life Mr. Miyagi. “It was always his dream to see me as an actor,” Ajay shared. Jackie echoed the sentiment, saying, “I’ve had many Mr. Miyagis in my life so many incredible teachers who helped shape who I am.”

Ben Wang and Yug Devgn also joined the conversation, with Ben acknowledging the mentors in his life, while Yug spoke warmly about his father's influence. “He teaches me every day about acting, life, everything,” said Yug.

Touching on the evolution of action in cinema, Ajay noted how the craft has changed over the years. “Today, there’s so much technology graphics, cables, VFX. Back in our time, everything was raw and real. My advice to newcomers: put in the hard work. There are no shortcuts.”

Jackie also reminisced about his experience shooting Kung Fu Yoga in India, expressing his admiration for Indian cinema. “I loved my time in India. Every Bollywood film amazes me everyone dances so well! The choreography, the energy, the visuals… I once told my director that I want to do an entire film where I only dance!”

For Jackie, the worlds of action and dance aren’t too far apart. “Both require rhythm, timing, and full-body expression. It’s like storytelling through movement.”

As the two action legends shared laughs and memories, one thing became clear a Bollywood crossover between Jackie Chan and Ajay Devgn isn’t just a dream. It’s a real possibility fans can now hope for.
