Kiran Abbavaram on Dilruba: A NewAge Commercial Entertainer for All Audiences
After the success of KA, actor Kiran Abbavaram is set to entertain audiences once again with his latest film, Dilruba. Starring Rukshar Dhillon as the female lead, the film is jointly produced by Sivam Celluloids, the renowned music label Saregama, and their production house A Yoodle Film. Backed by producers Ravi, Jojo Jose, Rakesh Reddy, and Saregama, the film is helmed by director Vishwa Karun.
Touted as a newage commercial entertainer, Dilruba is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on March 14, coinciding with the Holi festival. With its songs, teaser, and trailer already receiving a tremendous response, anticipation for the film is at an alltime high. In a recent interview, Kiran Abbavaram shared insights into the film and what audiences can expect.
We watched the final copy of Dilruba yesterday, and I can confidently say that it has shaped up very well. The songs, teaser, and trailer have all struck a chord with the audience. This movie will leave a lasting impact, especially on women, as it portrays them with great respect. There won’t be a single dull moment in its 2hour20minute runtime, and audiences will walk out of the theater feeling satisfied.
Since this film was made before KA, some might assume that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. While 10 to 20 percent of the scenes might feel familiar, the remaining content is fresh, engaging, and in line with the evolving commercial trends.
We have been open about Dilruba’s storyline in press interactions because we believe in its strong emotional moments. The film beautifully captures the magic of love, and the protagonist’s characterization is a major highlight.
In real life, people often say ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ casually. But in this film, the hero firmly believes in preserving the true value of these words. Another refreshing element is how the film explores relationships—exlovers and current partners are usually depicted as sources of conflict, often in a humorous way. However, Dilruba presents a fresh perspective by showing how exlovers can maintain a friendship and provide moral support. This aspect will resonate well with audiences.”
A Strong, ThoughtProvoking Hero Characterization
The character of Sidhu is one of the film’s biggest strengths. His emotional journey is at the core of Dilruba, and his unique worldview will make audiences think. His beliefs and dialogues have depth, similar to the thoughtprovoking characterizations seen in Puri Jagannadh’s films.
For example, Sidhu never says ‘sorry’ or ‘thank you’ lightly. His perspective is shaped by events from his past, and the film gradually reveals the reasons behind his ideology. There’s a powerful dialogue in the film that says, ‘God stopped talking to a man after he cheated. Anyone who doesn’t make mistakes is a hero, but the one who accepts his mistake is an even bigger hero.’ Dialogues like these will leave a strong impact. Dilruba is a wellpackaged film with all the essential elements of entertainment.
Dilruba is crafted to appeal to both youth and family audiences. There is not a single scene or dialogue that would make family audiences uncomfortable. At the same time, youth will connect with Sidhu’s unique personality and the film’s fresh narrative. Unlike my previous films, where I’ve given more subtle performances, here I’ll be seen in a new light.
We intentionally kept some powerful moments out of the trailer to preserve the film’s surprises. Expect an intense and engaging experience in theaters.
This project was initiated three years ago, even before films like Dragon and Sankranthiki Vasthunam were released. However, those films made it to the screens earlier due to various reasons. That said, Dilruba stands on its own merit and has no comparisons.
Even in Tamil Nadu, audiences embrace good cinema with strong promotional efforts. Though we don’t have the same level of backing there, we are confident in the film’s universal appeal
Since this film carries my name, I have been deeply involved in every stage of its making. As an actor, I consider it my responsibility to ensure a quality product.
This year, I have two films releasing. From next year onwards, I plan to release at least three films annually. Immediately after Dilruba, my next film will be KRamp.
In the past, I did a few projects for the sake of visibility, but I have no regrets. Now, my focus is solely on delivering quality content. After KA, the audience’s perception of me has changed they see me as someone dedicated to good cinema, and I intend to maintain that image.
Currently, I am working on four diverse films:
1. A cult love story
2. A youth entertainer
3. A family drama
4. A largescale film based on the search for Lanka Bindelu, which is so vast that we are developing it as a threepart movie.”
With Dilruba, I promise an engaging, emotional, and entertaining experience. It’s a film that respects relationships, offers a fresh take on love, and keeps the audience hooked from start to finish. I look forward to seeing the audience’s reaction when the film releases this Holi.”
