Telugu Film Chamber Declares February 6 as Telugu Cinema's Birthday
The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has officially declared February 6 as the birthday of Telugu Cinema, marking the beginning of an annual celebration to honor its rich legacy. In addition to the government awards, the Chamber has decided to introduce its own awards across various categories.
A unique tradition has also been initiated—on the birthdays of Telugu film actors, a special flag will be displayed at their homes and in theaters. Renowned writer Paruchuri Gopalakrishna has been entrusted with designing this commemorative flag.
Grand Plans for Telugu Cinema Day
Speaking at a press conference on this occasion, TFCC Honorary Secretary KL Damodar Prasad expressed his enthusiasm:
This is the first year we are formally celebrating Telugu Cinema Day. Cinema is like a mother to all of us, and the Telugu Film Chamber, the mother body, has now decided to make this an annual tradition. While this year’s celebration is modest, next year onward, we plan to organize it on a grand scale."
Telugu Film Producers' Council Secretary Prasanna Kumar reflected on Telugu cinema's origins, stating:
"Today marks the birth of Telugu cinema. The first talkie film, 'Bhakta Prahlada,' directed by HM Reddy, was a milestone. However, even before that, in 1931, 'Kalidas' was released, featuring four reels of Telugu dialogues and songs. Telugu cinema's greatness has now reached a global stage, and we take immense pride in that."
Veteran actor and producer Murali Mohan shared his joy:
"This is a longoverdue celebration. LV Prasad was one of the pioneering figures in Telugu cinema, excelling not only as an actor but also as a director in Hindi and Bengali films. Today, film personalities are often more recognized than politicians, and they continue to hold a special place in people’s hearts. Declaring February 6 as Telugu Cinema Day is truly a matter of pride."
Madala Ravi, Vice President of the Movie Artists Association, acknowledged Telugu cinema’s worldwide recognition:
"Once, we were known as ‘Madrasis.’ But today, Telugu cinema has earned global recognition, thanks to our exceptional technicians and directors. All film associations should come together to celebrate this day every year."
Veera Shankar, President of the Telugu Film Directors Association, assured complete support for the celebrations:
"The Chamber has taken a commendable step in organizing this event. We, as directors, are ready to contribute in any way. Special thanks to Rentala Jayadev garu, whose research led to the identification of this significant date. While ‘Bhakta Prahlada’ is the first Telugu talkie, ‘Kalidas’ was the first film where Telugu dialogues were heard on screen. We must acknowledge and take pride in that as well."
Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce Secretary Anupam Reddy emphasized the vision for future celebrations:
"Moving forward, we will ensure that Telugu Cinema Day is celebrated on a grand scale, spreading awareness about the greatness of our industry. A special thanks to Rentala Jayadev garu for his efforts in making this happen."
