Prime Minister Narendra Modi Praises the Legendary Contributions of Akkineni Nageswara Rao
In 2024, as the nation celebrates the centenary of the legendary Indian actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to his invaluable contributions during the "Mann Ki Baat" program.
"Akkineni Nageswara Rao took Telugu cinema to new heights with his dedication and talent. His films beautifully showcased Indian culture, heritage, and values," the Prime Minister remarked.
Throughout his illustrious seven-decade career, ANR played a pivotal role in the growth and success of Telugu cinema, delivering numerous blockbuster hits. By establishing Annapurna Studios, he was instrumental in shifting the Telugu film industry to Hyderabad.
In recognition of his immense contributions to Telugu and Indian cinema, ANR was honored with prestigious awards such as the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This year, the Government of India commemorated his centenary by releasing a special postal stamp. Additionally, ANR's classic films were showcased as a tribute at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the Akkineni family hosted a grand event, where legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and Megastar Chiranjeevi were honored with the ANR National Award.
