Tollywood Pro League Launched Grandly by Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, and Dil Raju
Cricket and cinema are two major sources of entertainment for Indians, and they share a deep connection. Keeping this bond in mind, actor Vamsi Chaganti, along with EBG Group’s Irfan Khan and Hari, has launched the Tollywood Pro League, a unique cricket league for the Telugu film industry.
The league was officially inaugurated in a grand ceremony held at Novotel Hotel, Hyderabad. Legendary cricketers Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, and Suresh Raina attended the event as chief guests, along with renowned producer Dil Raju.
Speaking at the launch, Vamsi Chaganti, one of the founders of the Tollywood Pro League, explained the idea behind the league. He said that until now, only film stars were seen playing cricket, but this league is different. The Tollywood Pro League brings together people from all 24 departments of the film industry, regardless of their position, to play cricket as one team.
He recalled an inspiring moment when he once played a match where a senior police officer and a constable opened the batting together, putting aside their ranks. That experience stayed with him and inspired the idea of creating a similar platform within the film industry. When he shared this idea with Dil Raju, the producer immediately supported it and encouraged him to execute the project fully.
Vamsi further said that EBG Group’s Irfan Khan and Hari came forward with full support, helping turn the idea into reality. The league will be held for five days February 13, 14, 15, 21, and 22 at Uppal Stadium, Hyderabad. A total of six teams will participate, each owned by leading Tollywood production houses. The names of the team owners will be revealed later.
Tollywood Pro League organizers Irfan Khan and Hari stated that if the audience support continues, EBG Group plans to expand similar leagues across India. They also announced that a portion of the league’s revenue will be donated to welfare activities, with the funds being handed over through FDC Chairman Dil Raju.
Speaking on the occasion, Dil Raju said that although the league is called Tollywood Pro League, it feels like a celebration of Telugu cinema, similar to the Telangana tradition of “Alai-Balai.” He expressed his confidence in taking the league forward and making it a grand success.
During the event, the Tollywood Pro League logo, team jerseys, and winner’s trophy were officially unveiled by Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Dil Raju, music director Thaman, Irfan Khan, Sonu Sood, Rashmika Mandanna, and Hari.
Filmmakers Anil Ravipudi, Prashanth Varma, Sailesh Kolanu, and Omkar also attended the event and shared their excitement. They encouraged members from all 24 film departments to get ready to play and released a special cricket-themed promotional video acted by Sailesh Kolanu.
Several prominent producers, including TG Vishwa Prasad (People Media Factory), Rajeev Reddy (First Frame Entertainment), Naga Vamsi (Sithara Entertainments), Sahu Garapati (Shine Screen), and Bapineedu, were present. Actors Ashwin Babu, Qayyum, Harsha Chemudu, along with the team of Committee Kurrollu, also participated.
Veteran actors Murali Sharma, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dino Morea, and nearly 150 cricket-playing members from various film industry departments attended the grand launch, making the event a memorable celebration of cricket and cinema.
