SS Rajamouli on Watching Avatar: Fire and Ash: “I Felt Like a Child in the Theatre”

A special global cinematic moment unfolded when two legendary filmmakers James Cameron and SS Rajamouli came together to talk about the Avatar franchise and its upcoming film, Avatar: Fire and Ash.

In an engaging conversation, the directors shared their thoughts on large-scale storytelling, creative processes, and the excitement and pressure that come with making films of such massive scale. The discussion offered a rare glimpse into how two of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers continue to push the limits of cinema.

SS Rajamouli spoke about his experience watching Avatar: Fire and Ash, saying he felt “like a child in the theatre.” He praised James Cameron for constantly raising the bar in visual storytelling while never losing emotional depth. Rajamouli also recalled how Avatar ran for an entire year in IMAX theatres in Hyderabad, calling the franchise a gold standard for immersive big-screen cinema.

James Cameron, in turn, expressed his admiration for Rajamouli’s filmmaking style and revealed his wish to visit the Indian director’s film set in the future.

Avatar: Fire and Ash, presented by 20th Century Studios, is set to release in India on December 19 in six languages English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
