Sapthami Gowda: “Thammudu’s powerful women will make every female viewer feel proud!
After the sensational success of Sankranthi Ki Vasthunnam, the team of Sri Venkateswara Creations is ready to present another blockbuster, Thammudu, headlined by Nithiin. Helmed by Sriram Venu, the film features Sapthami Gowda, Laya, and Varsha Bollamma in key roles and is slated for a grand worldwide theatrical release on the 4th of this month. Sharing her excitement, Sapthami, who essays the role of Ratna, opened up about her journey and the film’s highlights.
“Right after Kantara, I got a call from director Sriram Venu. I flew down to Hyderabad, did a look test, and once I was finalized, they handed me the dialogues for Ratna’s character. From the beginning, I could sense how crucial Ratna was to the story. I was even asked to train in horse riding, which I practiced 3-4 hours daily. Though the terrain in Araku was tough, seeing those scenes come alive makes it all worth it,” she recounted.
Describing her character, Sapthami shared, “Ratna hails from a village named Ambaragodugu and is a huge fan of Pawan Kalyan. While some might think my look is reminiscent of Kantara, Ratna’s persona is entirely different. She adds a spark of humor to the otherwise intense storyline. Ratna’s playful interactions with Nithiin garu and Laya garu’s characters, who land up in her village under unexpected circumstances, create fun moments for the audience.”
Setting aside the speculation about Ratna’s profession, Sapthami teased, “Ratna is not a radio jockey! What she really does will be a surprise you can only discover in theatres.”
The actress also highlighted the film’s strong female presence: “What sets Thammudu apart is how powerfully women characters are written. From Laya garu as a stern officer to Gutthi, who learned bus driving for her role, and the impactful parts played by Varsha, Ditya, Swasika, and myself all our characters have strength and substance. It’s rare to see heroines in mainstream films sharing action sequences with the hero, but Thammudu does exactly that. I believe female audiences will walk out of theatres feeling happy and proud.”
On her chemistry with Nithiin, she added, “Ratna and his character share a love story that starts off innocently like teenage romance and matures beautifully as the film progresses. By the climax, I’m sure viewers will root for our characters to come together.”
Speaking about being part of such a prestigious production, Sapthami expressed her gratitude: “Working under Dil Raju garu’s Sri Venkateswara Creations banner is a dream for any actor. Their ability to back and promote a film of this scale is unmatched. Director Venu garu crafted every character with so much care. He was uncompromising in ensuring the best performance from everyone on set.”
She emphasized that Thammudu is a true big-screen spectacle: “This movie needs to be experienced in theatres. The scale, the visuals, the emotions they simply won’t have the same impact on a small screen. If you’ve watched the trailers, you already know Thammudu is going to be a massive cinematic ride.”
On her future plans, Sapthami revealed, “I love commercial entertainers. Thammudu fits perfectly in that space. Rashmika’s role in Pushpa is one I adored if I get similar offers, I’m all in! Post-Kantara, I received many offers, but I turned down most of them because they didn’t excite me enough. Right now, I’m working on two Telugu films and projects in Tamil and Kannada, and I’ll share details soon. My aim is to do versatile roles across languages and break barriers.”
