Feels like Aashiqui nostalgia in Saiyaara!– Mahesh Bhatt
Legendary filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is thrilled that people are comparing Saiyaara to his classic romantic film Aashiqui. He believes Saiyaara, directed by his protégé Mohit Suri, could become the defining love story of this generation.
Bhatt’s 1990 hit Aashiqui turned newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal into overnight stars and became a musical sensation. Now, Saiyaara is following a similar path, launching Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film's music, especially its title track, has already become a massive hit.
Mahesh Bhatt says,
“Every generation has a love story that speaks to them. Saiyaara could be that film today. When I made Aashiqui, it came from a place of honesty, and people really connected with it. I believe Saiyaara will do the same for this generation.”
“It’s wonderful to see audiences getting Aashiqui vibes from Saiyaara. But I believe this film will break new ground and redefine modern romance. I’m proud of Mohit and hope he goes beyond everything I’ve done.”
Bhatt, who helped shape Mohit Suri’s journey as a director, feels Saiyaara is a big step forward in his career.
“Mohit has really evolved with this film. It’s different from anything he’s done before. The emotional depth and intensity he’s captured is beautiful.”
He also shares his excitement about Mohit working with newcomers and praises Yash Raj Films for backing the project.
“Fresh faces bring fresh energy. Ahaan and Aneet look fantastic together, and I’m glad YRF is supporting them. I have huge expectations from Saiyaara. It feels like a breath of fresh air.”
Releasing on July 18, Saiyaara is already being called the biggest debut film in years. The romantic drama brings together Mohit Suri and YRF for the first time and has delivered a hit music album with songs by top artists like Faheem-Arslan, Jubin Nautiyal, Vishal Mishra, Sachet-Parampara, and Arijit Singh.
Produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, Saiyaara is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 18, 2025.
