Chethabadi A Real-Life Tale of Banamathi Unfolds on Screen
Under the banner of Sri Sharada Ramana Creations, debut director Suryas brings Chethabadi to life, a film inspired by true events and rooted in the eerie backdrop of banamathi (black magic). The story traces a real incident from 1953 in the village of Girida and draws on older local lore from Seeleru, where dense bamboo groves and mysterious soil set the stage for a ritual involving a live black chicken on an Amavasya day. Director Suryas explains that Chethabadi a traditional practice he frames as an energy-based form of dark influence will be explored from a fresh angle, focusing on the idea of “hair energy” and the unseen life in every part of the body. Producer Nanda Kishore adds that the film will portray how fear of banamathi once created deep political, social, and psychological exploitation of people’s beliefs.
